yellow/brownish circles

i have had hep c for five years. i know other people that have had the disease longer than i have, however, they do not have the yellow/brown (bruised) ring around the eyelid like i do. is this something i have to deal with every time i look in the mirror for the rest of my life? do treatments tend to fade these circles out?

You've only had Hep C for five years.  Hep C generally progresses very slow. However with what you're doing with the alcohol you're going to speed things up considerably potentially.

So..like Bill said...first order of business before you can even get close to being treated for a disease you are NOT YET DYING OF....is to get sober and clean.  Then perhaps participation in a clinical trial.  No point in talking about that just yet though til you can sort out the clean and sober part.  Good luck with that.

Middy, Trish won’t be of much help sorting out U.S. insurance issues; she hails from a country that has compassionate and comprehensive national health care.

You don’t need to concern yourself with HCV management until the drugs and booze are put behind you; active alcoholism will get you long before your HCV. Most doctors won’t treat the HCV until the patient can demonstrate a period of sobriety anyway.

If you get sober, you might consider participation in clinical trial; they’ll cover your costs completely.

Good luck,

-Bill

i think i am dying because i have a drug and alcohol problem i cant quit.

that may be....but this is a HCV forum where there a lot of people trying damn hard to get better,  so no one here feels like it is a no win situation!

Address your drug and alcohol problem for a start and then you can look to taking the HEPC(log on the fire as you call it ) off the fire

And don’t worry; if you get sober, it won’t necessarily cause you to spell words like ‘favor’ with a ‘u’ in it :o)!

Middy, roughly 5% of HCV patients will succumb to this disease; the others will likely die of something entirely unrelated. There are statistics that dispute this figure, but I think it’s generally accurate; at least for purposes of this conversation.

Many of us have a history of drug and alcohol addiction. I most probably got the disease myself from needles many years ago. I also drank alcoholically for years on end. With a disease like HCV, it might be a good idea to take a hard look at things, and perhaps change the way you view life.

Sobriety isn’t a bad thing; even if you somehow end up not enjoying it, others around you will certainly appreciate your efforts :o). Addiction can be a selfish act; try to get beyond it. There are AA/NA meetings in your area; they don’t cost much, if anything; and they might help you get sober.

Good luck to you; stick around if you like, read and ask questions….

Take care,

Bill

" i was diagnosed in jail and the nurse said it is a terminal disease with no cure. "

That's bullsh!t frankly.  Should be a complaint lodged against her for telling people things like that.  I had treatment and now I don't have Hep C anymore - ALOT of us like that.

Do yourself a favour - stop taking drugs and alcohol because you think you are dying.  You're not even close and that nurse was full of sh!t and you listened to her instead of looking into it for yourself.  Now you are here and asking questions and you can educate yourself - it's a start.

We ALL have sins from the past.  Not a dang thing you can do about the PAST, only the FUTURE.  And lots you can do about it if you decide to.  Seriously.

"i was diagnosed in jail and the nurse said it is a terminal disease with no cure. that is why i always medicate my psychosis."

Probably not exactly the most qualified person to dispense medical advice.

Hepatitis C is by no means terminal, it's not even incurable. For many people, it is curable.

Since Hep C isn't going to bother you for another 20 or 30 years, if ever, step 1 is to get your addictions under control. Then you can begin to think rationally.

Good luck brah.

I have never heard of this before but I have only known about my virus for 2 years.  If you are really concerned, you should not just stress over it.  You should go to your dr and ask him about it.  Even your regular family Dr could tell you if you should be concerned about this or not.  Relax and dont worry so much.  I think that if that is the worst of your symptoms then you probably wont die before you get another Drs appt.  It may not even be related to Hep C. Please go check it out.  Stress can kill ppl too.

Hi middy,

I hope you're going on more than yellow/brown circles around your eyes.  Having Hep C for five years is not so long comparatively. Alot of us have had it for 20 years or more by the time we were diagnosed with liver damage still in early stages for a good number of us at that point as well.  Those yellow/brown circles might be from something else entirely also.

I certainly hope you've gone for a biopsy and have had bloodwork done to know where your liver enzymes are at?   Do you have a doctor?  Is your doctor monitoring your liver damage?  Takes alot more than yellow/brown circles before you can jump to the conclusion that you're dying.
