Post treatment problems

My wife completed her 48 mos program on 9/6/2010.  This was the last injection and the last pill one week later.

She is experiencing extreme weakness, loss of muscle mass, and unable to concentrate and focus.

Her Vitamin D is OK, so is B12, B5, and potassium.  Doctor had her checked for adrenal problems and her cortisol is fine.  All the blood work parameters that were out of line a month ago are on the improve. She has no other medical problems.  She is 59 years old.

Has anyone who has completed the program experienced bad effects that could not be attribbutable to any other condition?  How long before they resolve?

Does anyone know of any medical literature on post treatment symptoms?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Getting off treatment can be hard too because by withdrawing drugs your system is trying to adjust to a new environment. Typically, it takes about a week for hemoglobin levels to adjust and another week before you feel the effect of that. If she was taking other drugs to control symptoms then it complicates things as you can't just go cold turkey at the end of treatment with every drug. This may prolong her recovery, but mental abilities are the last ones to return in my experience and this may take months.

If she's not feeling better with at least some aspects of her health at a month post treatment, then have her contact her doc and get her bloodwork done to see what's going on.

Have patience -- unfortunately, this is normal and many months may pass before your wife begins to recover physically and mentally.  Riba stays in the system for 6 months so tell your wife to continue drinking lots of water, eat healthy foods, take light exercise and rest when necessary.

I know it's worrisome because she's been through so much.  I too was worried that I would never feel good again after tx.  It's been 19 months and I'm finally feeling like my old self.  Hopefully it won't take that long for your wife.

Take care,
KF

Sorry, I meant her 48 weeks program and not 48 months.
