i ve had gum and peridontal problems for years but always been under control wit 12 wkly visits to dentist and hygenist , but half way through tx things went crazy, now i have to have all my top teeth out they are all loose and i need a denture its horific !
got receding gum problems for years.
went to see several dentists and a gum specialist.
once your gums are gone they do not come back.
try to preserve them as much as possible.
be careful because gum specialists will want to do expensive
gum surgery so get second opinion if needed.
i got myself an extra soft toothbrush , use a waterpik after meals,
tx meds dry up your soft tissues gums , sinus even eyes.
with a dry mouth the bacterial defense is gone.
i use Biotene dry mouth spray , rinse my sinuses with a saline solution,
use homeopatic lubricating eye drop and rinse my mouth often during
the day. I read somewhere to use oil based mouth wash because it lasts
longer.
I don't know if I can be a good person to answer this or not because I've done so many treatments and not just SOC. However, I do have significant recession in my gums. My teeth are great, no decay, no root canals, no crowns, but my gums are lousy. This is in spite of being very rigid w/brushing and flossing and using a fluoride/anti-plaque mouthwash. I do make sure that I am up to date on my dental appt.s, even though it's been hard at times w/o good dental insurance. What I do is go over to the dental school and I can get my teeth cleaned by the students there. It takes 5 times longer, but a cleaning is like $15.00 and I got 4 bitewing X-rays for an additional $5.00. After the students get done, their work is checked by an instructor and then, a dentist walks over and checks it, too. So, you have 3 people looking in your mouth and you're there for hours. Not pleasant, but you do what you have to. I can only go there once a year and I go to my regular dentist on the opposite 6 mon. So, it's like dental school, 6 mon. later, regular dentist, 6 mon. later, dental school, etc., etc. My insurance only pays for 1 cleaning a year and I have to come up with the money up front and wait for them to reimburse me. They really don't cover anything extra hardly at all. Susan400
Don't really have specific answers for you but can tell you that treatment for HCV can cause dental problems for some. It is good to have a dentist onboard when treating.
best of luck
