VL of 22 million is quite high, but not unheard of. Viral load can change during the day.  She  could have a 3.5million VL now.  Apparently she has not had a liver biopsy.

I have read that hep C can cause inflammation in the lungs.  Treatment should help -- hope it does.  I am sorry the doctors are not able to help her more.

She will be starting treatment with the 3 drugs which include Boceprevir.
But one thing the hepatologist should take into consideration there are symptoms of Fatigue, Nausea, Weakness. and has now been diagnose through her hepatologist with Inflammation of the tissue due to her hepatitis which is creating severe pains in her chest and problems breathing, also she has all the side affects from her Fibromyalgia on top!

They were concerned about her breathing 2 months ago once seen the doctor rushed her into Emergency concerned about the poor function of her heart.

It appears to me you have to be dying in (Intensive Care) just to go on the sick for 6 months.

her viral load has gone up from 6.5 to 22.5 million in 18 months, two months later after having another test they stated it is only 3.5 !!!!!

They have messed up the blood work as no way it would drop 19.5 in two months without being on treatment, the doctor will not do anything as the next blood test to correct the problem he will have to pay as she will not be covered by insurance, so regardless the mess up of the blood work which is now approx 24 million he is sticking to 3.5.

I am glad i am not treated like this in the UK

I can see that you have a problem.  What is her liver damage.  Although those symptoms can come from Hep C, unless damage is progressed, they more than likely come from the fibro.  Her VL is high, but that does not tell damage.  I don't know of anyone who has received disability for hep with only those symptoms.  If she is cirrhotic, it may be another story.

If she starts treatment again, it should be with all three drugs.

Hi Frijole,

Many thanks for the link i shall look it up:

Hepatitis C,
Genotype 1a.
Viral load Feb 2011 - 22.5 million

Hepatitis c and Fibromyalgia has some similar symptoms of Fatigue, Weakness, Nausea  therefore her hepatologist will state it is not the hepatitis it is fibromyalgia the Rheumatologist will state it is not your Fibromyalgia it is your hepatitis c therefore no one really wants to take the responsibility of her.

Last year she started the treatment for her Hepatitis C after 2.5 months she had to have a stone removed from her kidney, the very same hepatologist stevan gonzalez cancelled the treatment as her body was too weak to recover while on the chemotherapy.

She planned to go on leave of absence for 6 months to have her course of Chemotherapy for the treatment for her hepatitisC, same hepatologist as last year still hesitates to fill out her disability forms knowing what happened last year and that she has ended up in emergency 3 times this year, no one really wanted to fill out her forms. DISGUSTING!

Cliff, can you tell me what your fiance's stats are -- genotype, viral load and liver damage?  Is she trying to qualify for disability for the liver damage or the fibromyalgia?

There is at least one person on the forum who has added a PI at week 30 or so but his hepatologist is very knowledgeable.  I am afraid at the beginning  (the beginning of using the protease inhibitors) that some doctors aren't going to know what can or cannot be done.  The Liver Institute is a trial facility.  They have had experience with the PIs so may be ahead of some of the other doctors in understanding.

This is a link to the profile of the doctor I saw .  He spent and hour with me and I liked him.  Other than that I can't tell you much.

Many thanks,

I find it being a big difference in sitting down and speaking with someone compared to the decisions they make through your course of treatmant.

My Fiance' and i attended 2 appointments

1: Gasterentorologist
who considered her to go on the basic treatment
Peg interferon & Ribavirin i asked a variety of questions one of them was...what would be your opinion on the future months when the new drugs Telaprevir & Boceprevir becomes available?
She replied we can then add the new drug to the existing treatment.

2: Liver Specialist
He has a very cold attitude and approach towards his patients name Stevan Gonzalez - Fortworth, TX
I asked him a variety of questions and the same as the one i asked the Gasterenterologist above and he stated NO i will not add the new drug in the future months as this is the worse thing you can do as the Virus can counter react and fight back once we start we have to keep to the same treatment right through!
My Fiance has hepatitis C along with Fibromyalgia and has been admitted into ER 3 times this year due to her health and her present hepatologist hesitates to fill out disability forms for her, he had eventually filled the forms but leaving 50% of questions unanswered!

So i was in search of a new hepatologist
WHO CARES FOR HIS PATIENTS AND KNOW FULLY YOU CAN TRUST HIM!

I consulted at the Liver institute after I relapsed in 2006.  I had another treating doctor then.  Then the hepatologist at the Liver Institute left and I was assigned another hepatologist.  So, no, I haven't treated with him yet

Has the doctor gone through the 6 / 12 months course of treating you for your hepatitis yet?

How did you get on in the end, were you succesfull in killing the virus?
