Scared

I had a serious fall on 2-6-10,and was in serious pain, should have went to Dr. but hate going. Then the pain was so bad I went to emergency rm Dr.on 2-12-10.He did a ultrasound showing my liver elavated,as I told him the pain was on my right side then to my right temple at same time.As well as u can hear a heartbeat on my left rib area. And going to the restroom like every five minutes, and threw up one time.He gave me vicoden, promethazine, and ranitidine, then told me to go to my primary. As I did today 2-22-10. She said that all is ok,not even as much as a blood test. She is getting me to go see a GI Dr.for a colonostyme, and I can tell him all.I have had Hep C now 30 yrs is she just scared to say I'm not well, and there is nothing she can do. Or can I not worry so much. Please if you could help me to see I'm gonna be ok,would be so appricative.Thanx Mary& God Bless

Please take Bill's advice and see the GI doc for the colonoscopy and tell him about the Hep C so he can help you get better.  And...fear and anxiety can cause a lot of physical symptoms, especially those involving your stomach/colon.  So see the GI doc and let us know how things go.  You'll find a lot of helpful people here.
Prayers,
Pat

Hi Mary,

Sorry to hear you took a spill the other day. The ER ultrasound showed what? The thing is, U/S scans are excellent diagnostic tools for many things, but aren’t good at discerning hepatic fibrosis; this is the scarring that occurs with Hep C. The best tool for this is the liver biopsy; have you had one recently? The GI doc should be able to help you with all this; ask if they can help determine the amount of scarring, or fibrosis of your liver. Until that has been accomplished, there’s no telling how much you might have progressed over the past thirty years.

Best of luck to you, and hope you’re feeling better,

Bill
