Shaking Ribavirin Capsules

Hi All- I know this may sound dumb, but my niece threw my bottle of Ribavirin Capsules against the wall (She was mad at her mom- and grabbed the first thing in sight- which happened to be my brand new bottle).  I opened the bottle immediately after to see if there was any damage.  All the capsules seem intact, however, would there be any damage to the medicine itself?  I looked it up online, and they said never to "open, break, or chew on capsules."  My situation doesn't fall into any of those categories.

Again, I do apologize if this sounds dumb =P  - I am almost done with my tx and I don't want anything to jeopardize the results.

Give your niece some Ritalin and send her to her room without dinner.

One of my bottles spilled out one time.

That's expensive medicine to be tossin around.  If someone touched my Chemo drugs I'd be so mad.

One time I had a vegetarian capsule that had a piece of the material frayyed or jagged on the edge, and I was so glad I looked at it before takin it.   close call.

Please make sure you never ever leave your meds out where anybody else can get to them - women who might possibly get pregnant cannot even TOUCH them without fear that they might damage the fetus.  Let alone a child could get the stupid 'childproof' top open with no problem (us oldies have more trouble than those nimble fingers do) - seriuosly treat these meds with respect as they are incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands.

I have a niece who has been in her terrible 2's for 4 years.  It's always the parents' fault.

LOL thank you for the responses.  She does have tantrums at times and I happened to pick up a new months supply from the pharmacy yesterday.  I stopped by my Brother's house- and left the bottle on the living room table.  My niece is in her terrible 2's, so although we did have a talk, it was ultimately my fault for putting it in her reach =(

I know I was just being paranoid- and thank you for the responses!

Riba always scared me. So, I always treated the riba with kindness and respect.  I talked nicely to it and kept in a nice quiet place where it couldn't get into arguments with other meds.  "Take it easy on me guys" was my greeting to them. You don't want to ****-off riba.

Hopefully, they haven't gotten to upset from the rude treatment by the stinkin' rug rat.  If I were you I would make it clear that it was the kid and not you.  Play some soft music for the riba and keep it safe and away from all noise and aggravation - expecially kids.

Messing with riba is like poking a bear.

Peg is a punk and I enjoyed jamming the empties in a sharps container.

Maybe you should introduce your niece to Riba Rage. I bet she would go running to her mother and probably never touch anything of yours for the rest of her life.

Hi Kat,

So your niece was ticked off and chose the most expensive bottle of pills in the house to throw? Lucky it wasn't the peg!

When it comes to ribavirin, my specialist pharmacist for Roche acted like anything pretty much goes, shake-it-up-wise or temperature-wise.

Warning to your niece, though, he said it's super-important to not shake the interferon!

As for the online directions about not dividing the pills ( in order to divide the dose), some pills are like that and I don't know why. I've tried cutting some pills in half, no problem, but for others the pharmacist said not to do it.

Congrats on getting closer and closer to the finish line - it feels so great to cross over and soon you'll be there, no more shots, no more pills.

I don't see how it could do anything to the meds, if they are still intact.

Was it the North wall or  South wall?

Nevermind. I;m sure it's OK either way.
