Shasun Chem to launch Vertex Hepatitis C' Drug in June-July 2012

The supply of the Hepatitis C drug to Vertex by Shasun Chemicals is set to take off earlier than anticipated. The product is set to launch in June-July next year. "Commercial supplies have already started and we are preparing for the launch this year," says Vimal Kumar, Managing Director of Shasun Chemicals, in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18's Udayan Mukherjee and Mitali Mukherjee. .

Who Is Shasun Pharma ?
This chennai based pharmaceutical chemical manufacturer seems to have hit a gold mine. It has obtained a mojor contract from Vertex Pharma based in Cambridge, Massachusetts for manufacturing blockbuster drug Telaprevir which is used in treatement of Hepatitis C. The potential global market for this drug is over $ 2 billion (Rs.10000 Cr). The drug is in advanced clinical trial and is likely to hit the market by 2011. Vertex will have to source the entire supply from Shasun which would translate as a windfall profit for shasun.

"A: I cannot give details. But yes, one of the products is in Phase III, the regulatory approvals are expected to be in place by April-May and the launch to set to happen somewhere in June-July next year. Commercial supplies have already started and this year, we are preparing for the launch. "

They have been making it some where. Perhaps that supplier until this one ramps up.

possibly  'hcvnewdrugs' may just have gotten the "next year" reference off. Looks like tela will be manufactured in India and will be ramping up for distribution in June/July, as expected. Thanks for posting - this kind of rubber-meets-the-road planning is more reassuring than stock analyst speculation.

Shasun Chemicals is projecting July of 2012 -  we've been told expected release is mid 2011?

Apparently a company in India named Shasun Chemicals.  And according to the article it may not be available until July.  But an almost firm date is good news isn't it?

Supposedly Telaprevir is supposed to be released in June 2011?   Who will be manufacturing it?
