Side Effects from meds

I am wondering if anyone else has the same problems I am having? I am treatments for Hep C. At the begining I had a few aches, pain, feeling hot and cold stuff like that it wasnt to bad but now i am in my 2 month of treatments and some of the side effects are getting worse. My doctor said the side effects will go away the longer i am on the meds. My treatment is for 11 months. Anyone else have this problem too?

Thank you all for all the help. I am figuring out that this treatment is going to be a hard road. I didn't know about this web site until now. But i am hoping with all the support on here i can get threw this. I am geno type 1a The biggest fear i have is I am hoping i am not doing this treatment for nothing and it helps me and get this alien virus out of my liver. when i first found out i had hep c all i did was cry. alot of thoughts rushed threw my head. i have found out 1 thing is when i feel nausea i tried everything i know it may sound weird but eatting baby food is really light on your tummy and i dont get sick as much

YES! The Dr. told me at the begining that the sideeffects would get better with tx, and when the first few weeks were not to bad, well I thought this would be no problem, well by week 7 I could not get out of bed the pain was so bad and it just kept getting worse. Just keep up with your Dr. I got so bad that I told him two weeks ago that I needed to stop tx becouse of the pain, I could not even get up to pea ( I even peed myself) and all I did was cry- I could not pick up my children, and all the percocett did was give me about an hour of relief, my dr started me on a SR Morphine ( I do not recomend it unless the pain is unbareable) and I am able to function for the first time in a month. This forum has also been my lifesaver and realizing that I am not the only one feeling this way. Good luck, and God bless

There are medications that you can take it your white and reds get too bad.  Make sure the doctor offers you THEM instead of dosage reduction. That seriously compromises your chance of success and you don't want that. Neupogen for the white and Epogen (Procrit) for the hemoglobin.

Good luck. What you are experiencing is common.

I treated for 72 weeks and have been 'cured' for over 18 months. It works even though it's not always easy.

Lynn56,  I have been on treatment since Dec. the 6. I immediately had fever and chills later my hemoglobin dropped and within 2 weeks i was was put on procrit then started experiencing severe bone pain which is still a problem but we find solutions when the problems come. My blood is clear of the hep c a-1 but i still have a while to go. I am very sad and tired of being sick   maybe tomarrow will be better.

Hi-- I'm assuming since you say you're treating for 48 weeks that you are a geno 1..that said and you have been treating for 8 weeks and not cleared yet...but hopefully by week 12 you will have!! that is what you want!!
Treatment is difficult --that is for sure!  and everyone experiences sides differently...
Early on our blood counts are going wacky....and our bodies are definately not use to that!! nor are our minds!  So breathing is hard,  pains hurt and depression sets in because we just don't know when the heck this is going to "let up"...it goes on and on and on.....
and then God has a sense of humor and new sides kick in.....hair falls out...more nausea..more fatigue..oh my God!
but knowing you are fighting the dragon and doing something GOOD for yourself gets you through this...
and this FORUM SAVES YOUR DAILY LIFE!!!
I'm geno 1 A-- will do my 28th shot this week...have been on rescue drugs for all kinds of **** since week 3...and I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but for me ...it isn't getting any better!  I think it's getting worse...
Sorry....but best of luck to you....

Yep, I have.  Some people really never have them to begin with.  It's a matter of how the body reacts to the medication.  The overall effects should subside in time.  At least that is what is happening with me but that's not always the case.  In the meantime, deep breathes and if you get good day - celebrate life!

Thanks so much, My doc is keeping a close eye on me, I have my blood work done every 2 weeks, my viral loads are down from 1.8 million to 840,000.00 , my red and white blood cell count has dropped alot and that is what she is worried about. the put me on a sleeping pill to help me sleep and a pill to help with upset stomache and the bone and joint pain i am having. I am just hoping that as time goes by maybe some of the side effects will go away, have you heard of that happening?

correction:  treatment  -  not retreatment problems.

Yes, your sx are very similar to most people on treatment.  The degree to which we are effected differs with everyone.  I have been on tx for 17 wks with 48 recommended but will probably have to extend to 72 wks. In my case sx are becoming less troublesome but that is not true with everyone.  It's a day by day process - hopefully your doctor is keeping a close eye on your blood work so that you aren't suffering from anemia or low white blood count as well as other retreatment related problems.  Rescue drugs are available such as Procrit for anemia and Neupogen for low WBC.  Its not any easy process but with much diligence you can do it.  Good luck and keep a positive attitude - very important in this process.
