Sinus/Respiratory Infection During Treatment

Well, I seem to have caught a nasty sinus infection. Gunky discharge, face feels like someone hit me with a sledgehammer, eyes hurt, all that good stuff. Good thing I'm going to see the study nurse tommorrow.

I was just curious if anyone else has experience with any kind of sinus/respiratory infection during treatment. Do antibiotics work as well as they normally do while on tx? I had this happen to me once, many years ago, and I remember I went to see the doc, he gave me a shot in the butt, and 24 hours later I felt like a new man.

On the offchance this is NOT an infection, anyone ever heard of IFN causing nasty side effects like this? I'm pretty sure it's an infection, but I sure hope it's not just a side effect, cause I feel like crapola.

Thanks

RBW

Actually, I'm feeling better this morning after three doses of the antibiotic. Be lying if I said I felt GOOD, but finally some improvment.

Hector posted on another thread that in about 20% of patients, the Riba causes significant histamine effects like severe sinus congestion, itchy watery eyes, just like allergies.

I'm gonna talk to the nurse today at my study visit and see if I can get something prescribed to test this theory. Maybe I'm in that unlucky 20%. I usually have some seasonal fall allergies, but never this bad, and for this long.

I've had that for the past month or two. Constant river down the back of my throat... yuck!!

Some days I wake up and my eyes are swollen and my face looks puffy.

Some  days it feels like something is trying to push my teeth out of my head.

I think it is just sx from tx.

As Trinity mentioned, if the discharge is clear, it's probably just drainage. I live in the desert, and tons of people here get fall allergies from the grasses.

Maybe that's what you have going on.

Nice to know. Even though I'm heading out to the study site tommorrow, I called my study nurse today. She went over a pretty thorough interview on my symptoms, and ended up calling in an amoxycillin script for me. I popped one about about 10 AM, and popped another one just a few mins ago.

I swear, I already feel better. Maybe it's all in my head, but my face and throat aren't hurting nearly as bad as they were. God, I can't wait to get over this. I can't remember the last time I got sick - must have been 20 years ago, but I've been in bed for most of three days now.

Pneumonia huh? Man, I bet that makes ya feel like a million bucks while eating Riba and pounding in the IFN.

Antibiotics generally work well during treatment and don't effect the efficacy of the treatment drugs. Gunky discharge, green or brownish yellow is a good sign of infection and not just sinus drainage.

I had pneumonia twice during treatment and both times antibiotics cleared it up.

I have had a sinus infection, aleast I think that is what it is . I never get sick, but I am into my 29week of tx, I have had this for a month now. I were a nose strip at night and it sounds like bubbles in side my sinuses. At first the discharge was infectious looking , now it is clear. I have talked to people who have been on antibiotics, and it did nothing, some have had this for months, who knows what any thing is on tx, I will be glad when this is over, except for a bad back I felt pretty good compared to  my quality of life as of late Stalion
