So can one have graprefruit and other citrus fruits?

I am checking through previous posts and I am getting confused. Some are saying grapefruit is good, some are saying - do not take it. And how about other citrus fruits: lemon, oranges?  I start my day with couple of glasses of water and lemon. I would really miss that. (I can do without grapefruits)

If I am at 7-8am at the collection centre, I have my results at 4.30 - 5 pm. They will email it through

I want to ask tomorrow for prescription for nausea, headache and rash tablets and they will give me the antidepresants prescription as a standard. I have the omeprazole prescription and I bought lots of stuff already (Biotene, fibre, vit b12, nasal saline spray, oats herbal bath). I just about can open a shop from my home. I think I went a bit overboard with the "just in case buying"

Hehe better safe than sorry. Umm I will make it, I know, the only thing which could stop me is the 4 weeks blood test. Or the blood counts going down to low (although for that they will reduce the dose)

You will make it until then!

Be prepared in advance for the possibility that what seems appetizing right now might not be that way around, say week 6 or 9 on Telaprevir.

I am not sure about food restrictions per se on Telaprevir but it never hurts to ask. Since your appointment is tomorrow if you have not done so already be sure to ask:

1)  For a phone number (or contact info) for who you can call when you have questions. Yes there are all kinds of posts on here but there might be times you do not feel like combing through the forum.

2) Chances are that if and/or when you do happen to find the need to call it might be because you need a prescription for something.

3) Also, maybe that person can arrange a way for you to receive your labs in a timely manner. There are lots of labs in the beginning.

same here, I think I go through 2 lemons per day ( one with water and one in salad). Love the lime as well when in season. yep saw that post with the Quercetin

I am having my pre tx app tomorrow so I will ask the question. Been told that there are quite a few restrictions with Telaprevir but not so many for the Interferon and Riba. So I migh be able to add things after week 12 (if I make it till then :)  )

There used to be mention of lots of supplements on here. To tell you the truth I do not take many vitamins or supplements right now. Your initial question interested me since I add tons of limes and/or lime juice to everything :)

Anywho, the only thing I have come across related to Quercetin and Hepatitis C that is recent is this:

Quercetin is a relative newcomer to the arsenal of nutritional supplements believed to help those with Hepatitis C.

Grapefruit has certain properties other citrus fruits do not happen to share:

___________________
The drug-grapefruit juice interaction is caused by inhibition of the intestinal cytochrome P-450 enzyme system, particularly cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP450 3A4), by 1 or more of the components in grapefruit juice.8 Many active components in grapefruit juice have been evaluated for potentially causing this interaction, including flavonoids such as naringenin, naringin, quercetin, and kaempferol,12,13 and nonflavonoids such as 6',7'-dihydroxybergamottin, bergaptol, and 6',7'-epoxybergamottin.14,15 Naringin, the glycoside of naringenin, is the most abundant flavonoid in grapefruit juice, constituting up to 10% of its dry weight. Naringin is not found in other citrus or fruit juices and is responsible for the distinctive smell and bitter taste of grapefruit juice. Naringin exerts no effect on the activity of the CYP450 system in vitro, but in vivo, its metabolite, naringenin, is a potent inhibitor of both the CYP 3A and CYP 1A2 isoforms.16 However, most research suggests the furanocoumarin 6',7'-didydroxybergamottin and/or its parent compound bergamottin to be the major CYP 3A4 inhibitors found in grapefruit juice.17

Hi,
I started triple treatment Sept 2011 and my doctor said NOT to have any grapefruit juice while treating.  I was allowed to have all other juices.  I also drank water and lemon.
I followed all my doctors orders, and I am now SVR :)
Good Luck.
