Sovaldi and Ribavirin

Just started treatment for Hep C. This is my 3rd day taking Sovaldi and Ribavirin. No side effects, yet. Just curious, if anemia sets in, when would that be? Is it two weeks into treatment?

Hi Buyron.  I did the same protocol and did reach SVR with this combo.  Everyone will have different experiences as we are all at varying degrees with this virus.  I pretty much sailed thru the first 6 weeks or so and then began to see a reduction in my Hmg. (Anemia). It never did go below 10 and began to level out weeks 10-12.  Some people don't have significant reductions, while others crash early on.  There's no telling which path you'll take but they do have reductions or rescue meds to get you thru.
Either way it goes for you it is so worth the couple of months of treatment to finally be cured.  Try to stay active, eat healthy, and drink plenty of water along the way.
Best Wishes
......Kim

Everyone reacts differently.  I did 48 weeks with Sovoldi and Riba and had no sides at all.

Harvoni and Ribavirin for 24 weeks.  Hgb dropped two points after two weeks, still not technically anemic as I started with good Hgb levels, though feeling tired.  Dr. reduced Ribavirin to 600mg from 1,200mg.  Hoping it will level off as I would like to continue the Riba.  Dr. had been to recent CROI conference and mentioned that although the benefits of Riba are not fully understood, it does seem to have some advantage when used in conjunction with Harvoni.  Best wishes for your treatment and for achieving an SVR.  I had bad anemia while on INF + Riba and you'll know if it hits:  shortness of breath, deathly exhaustion and heart palpitations.  Here's hoping you won't experience any of that.

I am currently on this tx now for 12 weeks and finish on 3/27/15. I was non detected after 4 weeks. My GT is 2. I started feeling the side effects about week 3. My hemoglobin dropped to 9.6 around week 4 and my doc wanted to dro RIBA to 600 (started at 1200) but I said let's go 800 and my hgb is now at 9.9. I feel fine. I drink a lot of water, almost 90 oz a day. Youneed to be drinking at least half your body weight in ounces. Some days I have energy like the energizer bunny and some days I just want to crash at 8pm. I have more energy days than not. Hang in there. It's not that bad and the end result is so worth it!!!

So far so good. I'm 7 days into treatment and no real side effects. Sometimes I wonder if I have a placebo instead of the real deal. But I'm not in a clinical trial!
Staying active, working out, and playing tennis. Concentrating on breathing through my nose (puts more oxygen in the blood). Eating dark green vegetables helps fight off anemia. Just trying to do good things for my body to keep it strong.

Oh wow. Just talked with a friend who did this combo and the monster is dead. SVR12. Had lots of sides during treatment but kept on.~

With your doc, docs team and good self care you'll handle whatever comes down the path. Press on. This could be your winning ticket over the finish line.

Hi Buyron,  happy to have you on forum!
I treated w/same Tx 24. My anemia kicked in around wk 4-5.  Anemia, hard to breath (slight) very brief headaches (random) at wk 3 then disappeared as quickly as it started. Tickly annoying cough for 2 wks, more annoying than anything!
My anemia at the lowest point was 9.1 not low enough for Procrit. Kept my Hepa informed an he adjusted Riba <200mgs and I was fine. Don't be alarmed if they need to reduce your Riba because the meds are so targeted to inhibit replication and stronger it doesn't have a big effect on your Tx.

Everyone is diff so you may breeze right thru Tx. Just stay hydrated, pretty important while on Tx...
I just finished Tx on Jan 4th wtg for EOT12 (Apr 9th)

I hope you will be back to let us know your progress, we are here for you thru Tx....you will do just great!
Peace
Deb

Mine was near end of 4th week.  Leveled out at about 10 weeks (out of 24).

Historically it is about the 2 week mark and then it is supposed to level off. But, everyone is different. My anemia set in at the 8th month of a 48 week treatment.
