I also see a top hepatologist who is involved with Vertex and he said that he will be writing prescriptions for Telaprevir around Aug 2011.
I can personally say that Telaprevir works. I was in a study and now cured of HCV.
yeah, my doc, who is one of the top Hep C researchers in the country, told me he thinks Telaprivir will be on the market sometime '11Q4- '12Q1.
For what it's worth, i was in a focus group 2 months ago for an advertising campaign for a "brand new" hep C drug coming out (they couldn't tell me what it was by name, but i knew instantly it was Telaprivir), so they're obviously gearing up to get it to market as soon as the FDA gives the green light.
Vertex has stated that they will complete filing for marketing
approval with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by
the end of 2010. It is estimated that the FDA will approve
the triple combination of telaprevir, pegylated interferon
and ribavirin in 2011-2012.
A lot of people don’t know that the newer medicines will also have to be taken with pegylated interferon and ribavirin. Two HCV medicines that look like they will be ready for use in 2011 or 2012 are telaprevir (tell-lap-pra-veer) and boceprevir (bow-cep-pra-veer). These two medicines will be the first medications that directly stop the Hep C virus from making more copies of itself.
They keep pushing it back. I think second half of 2011 is a good guess.
The expectation is somewhere in the second half of 2011, although of course we can not be sure.
