My hemoglobin went as low as 9.4 on some occasions. The cut-off to reduce the riba here is 10, but my doc let me wait til my next blood check to see if I was back up to 10 by then, and I always was. That is why I am asking about his hgb level, because some docs are prone to reduce the riba too quickly. If one can manage to stay on full dose, that is the best. But it is good he is UND, because if you have to reduce the riba, it is better if you have already become UND.
Good advice from Jack there. You should also ask if they won't administer a rescue drug. The rescue drug for anemia (low hemoglobin) is called Erythropoietin, also nicknamed epo. It is a shot which is administered like the peg. One of the brand names used in the US is Procrit, here in Denmark one of them is Eprex. I don't know about the brands they used in the UK. Maybe you should call your doctor about it first thing in the morning.
Good luck with it,
marcia
Usually they know what they are doing, reducing Riba also mean reduce the chance for SVR, I would recommend to go and ask for an opinion from another very good doc wellknown expert with HCV, not that theye are wrong but that this is important enough for a second opinion.
wish you the best.
Jack
I presume they want to reduce his riba because of low hgb. What is his hgb? Are rescue drugs not allowed?
