Nootropics post Tx - feedback

Wondering if anyone has experience with nootropic supplements ? These are so called "smart drugs" ... after 60 wks. P/R Tx .. need all the smarts I can get ....

For 3 days I've been trying a synthetic B1 supplement here called Arcalion - active component is sulbutiamine ...

So far I can say for me the results are pretty good .. less brain fog , more energy & motivation .. improved QOL ...

I use less than the suggested dose of 400-800 mg per day .. taking only 1 - 200 mg tab in the morning ..

Any feedback , input , experience or warnings .. would be appreciated !

Cheers, Aaron

Thank you both for posting your ideas.  I have bookmarked this and will look into it when I think my system can handle it.

These chemicals stay in your system for a while and I am guessing they also keep working should there be any rogue virus left.  That said I would think at a certain point it would be good to help flush your system and nutures your brain.  I would expect some of the brain fog is caused by toxin build up.  I have also been looking for safe ways to help my system detox.  Some of the ideas I have been considering are in this article.  Omega 3 and b12 are also on my list.

Hi Ev,

Thanks for the reply , Always good to hear from you : ) !

Glad to hear Joe is doing better than his last Tx's .. Tx is tough on everyone .. He's lucky to have you !

The forgetting factor .. is tough .. really tough ..

I stumbled on this as a result of a doctor prescribing it to my wife for unrelated issue's .. looked it up in the PDR, as I do with all drugs before letting her take them .. she's very sensitive to any meds .. after reading about it .. being B1 , i thought I'm going to be a guinea pig here and try .. only 4 days into it so can't give much feedback .. but seems to have bettered my QOL .. going slow, half doses, and researching these drugs as much as I have time ..

Piracetam , the most common of these drugs has been around since the 60's .. not at all a new discovery ...

Will let you know how it goes ..... if I can remember to.. ha ha ; (
anyways you know where to find me : )

And Yes We All want a better QOL : = )

Best Always, Aaron

I have read a bit about it now and one thing that struck me is that the benefits are very similar to what Joe got from taking LDN.  He isn't taking Low Dose Naltrexone while on TX because I wasn't completely sure it was OK.  It was hard for Joe to stop taking the LDN because he didn't feel as well without it.  Some people have reported a small elevation of enzymes if they take the LDN for a long time but it doesn't seem to do that to everyone.  His quality of Life was certainly better with it.  The description of the improvements were pretty much the same as what you are trying...something to ponder.
I will love to know how your experiment goes. I am very interested in anything that is safe and increases QOL.  Who doesn't like quality of life? :>)
Take care,
Ev

Hi,
I am going to check in to what you are talking about . It is new to me but sounds quite interesting.
It would have made more sense to post after I checked it out but I wanted you to know someone is interested.  :>)
Thanks for sharing and I'd like to hear updates from you about this.
Joe had an episode of brain fog yesterday.  He couldn't think of the name of a boy he teaches at church.  He knows him very well and loves him.  It really bothered Joe when he couldn't call up his name.  I was able to help but even with no Hep C or TX, I struggle with brain locks too.  :>(
Joe hasn't had as much problem with this on his current TX as he has on past go arounds.  We had left the house yesterday without remembering his A.M. supplements.  I give him 1000 mg of acetyl L Carnitine in the morning and I think it is what has helped the brain fog. He took it when we got home and in a short while, he had a book out and was reading and studying.  I can't prove it but Acetyl L carnitine seems to be helpful and there are studies showing it helpful to other aspects of TX also.  I could find no reason not to try it and it has been a good addition as far as I can tell.
Lest anyone accuse me of selling something (I have been conditioned to be paranoid, but I'm not bitter)  acetyl L carnitine is sold, even at Walmart. :>)  They don't give me a thing for advertising.  :>)
