Inci or Vic ?
These are from the same family (as you have probably gathered from what you have read so far here) They are both protease Inhibitors that attack the virus in the same manner.
They have approx. the same success, given the data from trials ,with possibly Inci. doing slightly better. However ,not enough better to base a decision on which to use on that margin according to most treating doctors.
They have somewhat differing dosing regimes(Inci taken with the other two drugs for 12 weeks and then the other 2 alone(INF. /RIBA) for a remaining 12 weeks(depending on good response.
With Vic you do just the INF. Riba for 4 weeks and then all three for another 24 weeks,(again depending on good response)
Side effects can be slightly different with both .,however that is hard to categorize as everyone can react differently, however as Advocate says the rash is more a possibility on Inci . The anemia is pretty much the same for both ,however because you are on the VIc for a longer period it can be slightly more severe. There has been reported also the "flaming firarreah" as it is famously called here on Inci for some.
However,,this is what CAN happen, does not happen that everyone gets all side effects that are listed and all to different degrees.
Being that you have only moderate damage and are young with the CC gene ,you would most likely do very well on either with a great chance of success.
Personally with your status I would do the Vic with the lead -in and possibly not even have to add the Vic,as many doctors are doing with a good early response ( ,being UND. at week 4)
Always a personal decision though and one taken with lots of input from a good experienced doctor in the treatment of HCV..

Another forum member, HectorSF, posted a link to the results of survey that was completed asking MD's about their preferences regarding Incivek vs Victrelis. I posted the article in my journal, and you can read it by following this link:

In general, I would say that it's about 50/50 with some tendency toward Incivek, and in general, Incivek causes more problems with rashes, while Victrelis causes more problems with anemia.
Otherwise, follow your doctor's advice.

Hi Summer,
From what I have seen here, if you have never treated before I believe you can do either. If you have treated previously, it looks like INC is often recommended.
The 2 main differences.....time length of treatment (INC is 12 weeks; VIC is 28 weeks; both have a possibility of being increased to 48 weeks, depending on response) and degree of side effects.
Have a look at pages 6 and 7:
http://www.natap.org/2011/PDF/NurseMary.pdf
Side effects with INC seem to be significantly more troubling/painful. But a lot of people/doctors opt for that, inspite of the possibility of a rougher ride. VIC has it's share of sides too but not quite as intense for most. However, all the drugs you will be taking can cause Anemia. Everybody's body responds differently. Some get a bunch of sides, some, not so much. Wishing you the best. Hope this helps!
Just put in" Incivek or victrelis" in the search box above, plenty of good reading......
Good luck
