Changing Time of Interferon Shot

I was wondering if it would hurt to take my Interferon Shot earlier on a Friday then late Friday night?  My thinking is I would rather be sicker on the weekend then Monday and Tue of the following week or do you think it would make a difference?  I don't want to mess my treatment up it's hard enough already.

I took my shot late Friday evening and 5 hours later had flu like symptoms for 12 hours. Miserable.  Next week I started taking on Friday right after work and hit the hay just before sides start.  Saturday has been good for me with minor sx on Sun and then usually back to 80% by Monday.  There are so moany factors that affect how you react to the medicine. Everyone is different as you have learned. Moving up a day is not unheard of if your sides do not hit for several days. I know of several people who take their shots on Thursday because they are fine next 2 days and this way don't have to miss work.  Friday became the "magic day" because the norm was for sides to hit most for the following 2 days.
Its once a week and a few hours either way will not hurt you. Its the other fun pills you need to be more strict with.

What about doing your shot Thursday night before bed?  That way you get to sleep through many of your side effects.  My husband did this, and I've seen many others do this successfully.  Just my two cents...

When I did my first shot it was at Dr office at 2 PM, the NP told me it was fine to change the time the next week.

No problem going earlier even by a day.
Moving it later is another story, though an hour or so either way won't matter.

Hi there, the first time I treated,  I would do my shot right after I got home from work, that way when the sides hit about 5 hours later I was (hopefully) asleep.
While you should check with your doctor I checked with mine and he said that I could change the time during the day that I had chosen for my shot.  There were days that I even took it in the morning to try to help me work on Monday.
Good luck to you

Sounds like a good idea to me. I administer my Peg on Friday around 4:00 in the afternoon and  I pretty much turn into a pumpkin before midnight. Saturday is usually (but not always) a blah day and I am usually OK by Sunday.

It's always best to run these questions through your doctor for approval, but doubt very much if they would have any problem with shifting 12 hrs earlier in the same day.  However, I don't think its going to help you feel much better by Mon/Tues.  Many do the shot later in the evening to sleep through some of the immediate sides.  I guess you could try and see if this works for you.

Wont hurt a thing. I had the same situation and my Dr said go ahead. Interferon has a long half life and wont be affected by that much time. I am not a Dr, but I am very sure others will tell you the same.

Someone will probably follow-up on this but I think that kind of a time frame change is okay. I take my shots on Thursday night so that I am feeling pretty good start Monday morning for the work week..The week-end is all about down time...Best wishes...
