Hey there, I know this is old but it is in the same year :). 4 months post tx I thought I was safe, immunity built up all that jazz
Two weeks ago caught a cold, within days it was a sinus infection and bronchitis. Doc put me on antibiotics, the sinus got better the bronchitis got worse. I am so congested she said I may also have pneumonia which I have not had in 15 years since I started getting the pneumonia shot. Yesterday antibiotics were changed and steroids were started. I hate steroids but like breathing so here goes. I really did think my immune system would improve, feels like it is in the tank. It seems like an awful big coincidence that I got this sick the day after contrast dye during CT Scan though I am assured that is all it is.
Take care
Hmmm, for some reason, April tends to be "pneumonia"season, but my 9 yr old had it last month.
The Doctor treated him with the Azithromyicin, it's a 5 day antibiotic, that works well, for whooping cough and pneumonia~ people who have had pneumonia once, tend to get it again. I actaully went out, and had a DPT booster, last year, as I am in fear of Whooping Cough, which has made a reappearance.
Hope you feel better soon, I like the chewable vitamin C's, and vitamin D is good for immune system also, and of course, home-cooked food
I agree stay away from sick people if you can, it will take time for your blood to regroup back to its fighting weight and boost our immune system. I had a blood test yesterday at the hospital and while on tx I got into the habit of wearing a mask while I sat in the specialist clinc and pathology waiting rooms and I did the same yesterday, I also got into the habit of carrying hand bacterial ge at all timesl, dont be afraid to put on the mask, bronchitis can quickly develop into pneumonia and is so hard to shake.
Best of luck and good wishes to everyone
I actually had bronchitis 4 weeks ago too. Think it's time to try to build my immunity back up.
Dee, gerbils, and ceanothus, thanks for the well wishes. I'd still take this over being on tx so could be worse.
Slideman, that sounds terrible. I hope things improve for you.
I don't know the answer to Jillybean's question but think I will be doing some research to see what I can do. I have used diet and vitamins in the past to build my immune system back up. Think I may need to do so again.
Take care all.
Today marks 7 weeks post tx and I have felt bad that I still don't feel like socializing. Guess in a way it works in my favor. Good reminder for the wave of people just finishing. Do we know how long it does take for our immune systems to be somewhat normal?
Thanks to all of you for this heads-up, this is an invaluable warning. I'm so very sorry you got sick, and hope you can recover quickly!
Same thing happened to me!! I ended up with ear and sinus infectionn too, and I now have tinnitus and hearing loss so bad I am waiting for hearing aids....be careful post tx!!
Hi Jasmine,
I am sorry you got sick. Doesn't seem fair after all you have been through! I hope it isn't pneumonia but bronchitis can be bad enough on its own. Thanks for the reminder.
I hope you feel better soon!

Hey there! So very sorry about your setback. It is so very frustrating.
My doc said same thing, to watch it as our immune systems have been pushed so hard it would be easy to get sick
I did thinkg(DUH) that 8 to 10 weeks would give us a little immunity.
I hope you feel much better very soon
Dee
