Excessive Hair Loss 2 yrs Post Treatment

I have been having excessive Hair Loss for the past 3 months.  I am now 2 years post treatment and happily still clear of the virus :) Can anyone comment if this could have ANYTHING to do with the interferon treatment.. I did a 48 week.. Pegasus/CoPegasus..and a lot of rescue drugs..anti nausea..nupigen, procrit, phyc drugs, etc.. Any help out there ?? Thanks. Dorsey

Hi Dorsey:
I agree with nygirl, it may be your thyroid. My thyroid was tested at my six month checkup and turned out I have hyperthyroid (Graves) disease. I'm on treatment for it which can take a couple of years if it works, but its just a pill a day and no adverse side effects. Its just the opposite of nygirl's Synthroid. My hair still seems to be thinning but they are still adjusting my meds. I'm one year post SOC and SVR.

It's nice to see you around again too.  :D If it is your thyroid in any manner and they put you on Synthroid once a day it should fix it right up.  My hair is now growing like a weed, I'm not complainning. Two years of wigs was enough for me (except when I want to go out and play dress up that is - then it can be fun!)   ;)

Thanks so much for your post.. I recently had a TSH and it came back at 3.2 and the T4 was a little low too..it had never changed from 1.1 while on treatment ..so I'm thinking that this might be the culprit now..
It's good to see you still on this site helping soooo many people  starting treatment, on treatment and post treatment.  You helped me sooooo much while I was on treatment.  Thank you for all you did for me.. Best regards, Dorsey

Honestly this far after it doesn't seem to make much sense to me because the interferon is long gone; however, have you checked out your TSH level (thyroid) lately?  When I went hyper (then to hypo) on treatment my hair fell out much faster than it did prior to the problem.

That is about the only guess I have, but I dont think it's the interferon any longer. Its worth a simple blood test to find out.

I hope you are doing well otherwise!!!!!!!!!
