If the patient has achieved SVR (six months post treatment and continued undetectable status), they no longer have the active RNA virus, and therefore are no longer contagious.
I think the misunderstanding lies in that the SVR patient will still test positive for HCV antibodies; these antibodies aren’t part of the virus, but a product of our immune system memory. Having antibodies to a disease doesn’t necessarily correlate with active infection. Some folks don’t fully understand the distinction between the two, and become confused.
