boceprevir

I guess I am in the treatment naive trial for boceprevir. I have my first appointment in middle of feb. Does anyone know what I should expect from here? What are the steps? Also, I just read where a lady has all kind of problems with her platelets due to interferon, whats the worst side effects of this study? I wanna keep my platelets high, they are at 240,000 now. Any advice would be welcomed as I don't know if I am gonna accept the trial chance. thanks

I wonder about those folks who have all these bad side effects, what drugs were they doing, two or three drugs?

Most were doing the 2 drug combo,RIBA and PEG..(SOC) they are called...the three drug combo is pretty new..RIBA,PEG and BOC...this is my second round of tx and i have no side effects...mild headaches thats it...if i snezze i also get dizzy...no big stuff...

my last tx was in 2006...3 years later and  no after effects so far...BTW,,,we all react different to the drugs....but like i keep saying...MOST people have no problems

Yeah, my numbers arn't that good. I have alt and ast of 91 and 68, viral load of 32mil. However I have firborsure every six months and they show absolutely no fibrosis and little actitivity. I also have two normal mri's in the last 2 years. I feel okay but sometimes I wonder about cryo. I have had some episodes of flat red spots on my legs and painful joints. I was tested but I know there are specific steps to this test and the first one was skipped so I am not confident in the neg result. I have a regular fulness in my side. Other than that I'm great and feel okay most of the time. I am looking forward to the study but am a little concerned about the long term side affects, I wonder about those folks who have all these bad side effects, what drugs were they doing, two or three drugs?   well, have a great new year holiday.

Depending on what tests they require or if you have already had those then they will set up appointments to get those done. All test and lab work they require is payed for by the study. Im in the relapser trial and they had me have a eye exam, EKG, chest x-rays blood tests and they covered the cost. Sense i already had a bx, a recent ct scan then those were not requried.

Whether your in a trial or just doing SOC tx more then likely your platelets will go down do to the interferon. But from the looks of yours, your platelets should stay fine. The only added side with boceprevir has been mainly anemia. The relapser trial provides procrit for that at no cost.

Always read the fine print, find out the different arms in the trial and if they do have a placebo arm they should after so many weeks roll you into the real drug. Best to you.
