From the way you treated i would guess your either a geno type 2 or 3 as soc for those is 24 weeks. Since you went und at week 12 through the rest of treatment you are whats called a relapser, you became positive again sounds like 1 month post treatment. Genotype 2 and 3 usally will treat for 48 weeks after a relapse...... Good luck to you, BTW there are no doctors here just plenty of people that have treated.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear that you had a viral breakthrough.

First, I should mention that none of us are doctors. We are just people who have Hepatitis C and try to help one another.

I understand you have Hepatitis C Genotype 1 (from your post).

I really know nothing about the length of time a Genotype 1 person should treat with Pegasys and Ribavirin because most of us who are Genotype 1 are now treating with 3 drugs (Pegasys or some other type of interferon, Ribavirin, and one of the new drugs which became available in May 2011 (Incivek and Victrellis). Beng on the three drugs gives us Genotype 1 people a much better chance of clearing the virus and resching a sustained viral response (75 - 80% chance now).

Someone else who knows more about treatment with just the two drugs may come on and respond to your question.

Regardless, I think how long to treat is something you should discuss with your doctor, hopefully a hepatologist or Hepatitis C specialist. He/she should be monitoring your blood tests and your response and should know how long to treat.

I would ask why you are on only the two medications and why are you not taking one of the new drugs which has been added to the treatment for Genotype 1 people. If I were you I would ask my doctor about adding one of the new drugs to your treatment (so you would be taking three drugs) because it will give you a much better chance to clear the virus.

Hopefully some other people will respond to your questions too. Some of them are very knowledgeable.

I wish you the best.
