Wow, thanks everyone for the help and comments. Just got back from work to explain my delayed responce to all.
the situation is that it's a clinical trial number 2B so it would be paid for by the pharma co. Around 35 g's worth. 6 months plus 6 more of observation. Yicks. I don't know about the rescure drugs but I imagine these may be needed to help you get over any side effects,
I do luckily have a work drug plan so all comments are accurate. Wether or not every drug is covered ( 50 to 80 %) I'd have to look into it.
Side effects (lasting/debilitating) is what my main concern is. I've do lots of reading less pharma and more natural ways to combat this with little to no side effects.
Anyone have experience with that line of thought?
Thanks again to all for the warm welcome.
Willbb wrote me this in private cause he didn't want to show me up however he makes a very good point so I'm going to post his comments.
Yhis is correct, however the true fact is MOST people in Canada DO have some form of drug coverage...there is the group employer polices, there is the senoiurs who at 65 are basically covered 100% for drugs,,then there is the welfare folks who are covered..and then there is the low income folks who are highly sibsidized..... the true fact is there are yes some that are out of all groups ,,however I believe I saw the stats once that in reality it is a very small minority
"The government covers some to a degree but drugs are not covered as a matter of course in Canada." ................
for the most part they are... because of the the above stats very few canadians can not get meds mostly paid for...yes there are some like all countries.. but again a very small minority ."
He's correct that I came across as if it's worse than what it is. Will's comments paint a much more accurate picture than my comments do. That pretty much sums it up.
Rescue drugs while on treatment cost me....$120/week over and above what my group insurance covered. That hit me pretty hard at the time, not exactly spare change for me. Just the same, I was glad to have the 80% of it covered and thought I was pretty lucky. Guess for those with 100% coverage, even better. Still felt I was pretty fortunate though.
"Nobody said drugs are covered 100% I said MOST drugs are covered under MOST group insurance policies. "
I wasn't actually referring to your comment, Will. Speaking to Spectda's comment that paying for treatment is not a problem in Canada - clarifying on what DOES cost... and drugs do cost some.
That's great your policy covers all drugs 100%. I thought my policy was pretty good...it covered 80%. If you're a family who has week left over at the end of your pay, that 20% can still bite some. Just simply saying it's not completely cost free up in Canada, Will. That's it, that's all.
so it's not accurate to simply say drugs are covered and not 100%. I
Nobody said drugs are covered 100% I said MOST drugs are covered under MOST group insurance policies.
My policy DOES cover all drugs(that I know of) 100%...
"Most drugs ARE covered in Ontario under most group insurance policys"
Yes, they are. Like I said though....some people will have insurance through their workplace...some won't. Many do...just not everybody....so it's not accurate to simply say drugs are covered and not 100%. I had a pretty good policy and it covered 80% of the drugs. For some people in some circumstances, that 20% is still a bit difficult but at least not nearly as difficult as 100%.
The government covers some to a degree but drugs are not covered as a matter of course in Canada.
Most drugs ARE covered in Ontario under most group insurance policys
"Isn't Jenny Heathcote the one who said ALL skinny people ALWAYS SVR? Remember VeggieDip saying that......."
I find that rather hard to believe that Dr. Heathcote would say something like that. VeggieDip is the one who referred ME to Dr. Heathcote and TWH.
"It looks like you live in Canada so I assume paying for treatment is not a problem. "
Dave, doctor's visits and any tests required including biopsy are covered. We're certainly very fortunate that way. Treatment drugs are not covered, rescue drugs are not covered. Some people will have insurance through their workplace that will cover some or alot of it, some people won't. The government covers some to a degree but drugs are not covered as a matter of course in Canada.
Not sure? Was veggie dip skinny! :)

The following is an article that Canadas leading Hepa Jenny Heathcote..wrote in regards to Debio 25 and Geno Type 3.

Didn't see Canada sites
Many of the new direct anti virals do not seem to do much for people with genotype 3. The current standard of interferon and ribavirin for 24 weeks is very successful in treating genotype 3. The success rate is about 70-80% and the treatment time is not too long relatively. It looks like you live in Canada so I assume paying for treatment is not a problem.
Welcome to the forum,
Dave
Maybe DEBIO 25?

I think at least one forum person was involved in a Debio trial.
