I can understand why you are scared to see the doctor. Yes she will tell you that you need to quit. Ask her for help to manage quitting. I quit after almost 40 years, used the patch. I used it for almost a year. I just kept cutting the patch in half, then fourths, eights, and so on......I still miss them at times, but have not had a bad cold since quitting. Best of luck.
I had a dry cough from the riba. Lowering the dosage worked for me.
How many more weeks do you have on tx Patches?

Looks like you're getting some good tips. You may be unable to quit smoking at this time but cutting but cutting back may help the cough. A few years ago I started smoking American Spirits because they had less chemicals. As a result, I didn't crave the smokes as often and gradually smoked less and less. Pretty amazing. There are different brands out there. Might help???
Good luck,
C
I am so sorry about the cough 1fish2fish has a good idea with the Vicks, I used that as well and it helped me. MRPH114 is right about the Benzonate (Tessalon Pearles) they do help to get some sleep.
It is true you can only go through one thing at a time. You are very close to end, am rooting for you

I totally understand, as unfortunately I'm a smoker too. I'm 11 wks pt (24 wks oral trial followed immediately w/ 24 wks peg / riba)----had a real bad cough too, especially after treatment. My reg. doctor prescribed me BENZONATATE (TESSALON) 200 MG CAPSULE for my cough & DEXAMETHASONE (DECADRON) 4 MG TABS TABLET for inflammation, which got rid of it. Both of the meds were also approved by my liver treatment doctor prior to taking. I had inflammation in my throat which made me cough to try open up my airway. The DEXAMETHASONE is a cordisone that really helped the inflammation. I'm also looking to quit smoking too, but one thing at a time. btw, I've been UND from wk 6 thru my last test on wk 6 pt----I test this Friday for wk 12 pt. Good luck w/ your treatment and always talk to your doctor prior to taking anything during treatment.
it's a riba cough and possibly smoking exacerbates..I have the cough now but, it's not so bad...comes and goes..hang in there...
Yes, I have a very bad cough from the Riba too.
Good luck to you on the smoking. I cannot believe you were teaching full time while on treatment and smoking as well. You must have a very strong constitution. You are very fortunate for that.
You know the drill about smoking...it is deadly. Having said that as a former smoker who still longs to smoke, I think you are wise to tackle one thing at a time. Clear the virus, rebuild your health. Later there are things you can try to help you quit.
All the best to you.
That cough is bad, it's from the Riba. I found what helps me is Vicks vapor rub. Rub on your chest and breath or in a paper towel hold over your mouth and breath. It really stops that dry scratchy cough.
