hello, sanaamjad,
I heard of that, Interferone has serious side effect for liver organs. It may induce the happening of  other problems, such as fever, diarrhea, immunity disease, anaemia, diabetes. So try to control the disease with natural method, for example, eat more vegetable and fruit, or choose natural herbal supplement to improve the condition gradually.
I also have hepetitis c for many years. last month, my doctor told me a kind of herbal supplement.  He said a lot of Japanese patients had improved liver function after taking that.  It has got the patent in US and Canade.
my value of ALT / AST were lowered to normal level in two weeks. So i would like more of you to get rid of liver disease.   Their website is http://www.liver-health.info. or you can send a message to me. Hope to help you mother.

That would be genotype 2 OR 3...

One can only speculate from the information you provided but it sounds like she's probably a genotype 2 and 3 and had a relapse. This unfortunately happens in around 20% of those genotypes. Alternatives are to treat again or wait a bit for newer drugs. Best thing would be to get her evaluated by a liver specialist (hepatologist) for a second opinion. Also, if she didn't have a biopsy within the last 3- 5 years, she might ask the liver specialist about that as well.

We need to know more details about your mom's health in order to give you our best opinions about what she might want to do - and what she might not want to do as well. Here's a list of some info you would want to find out and maybe come back with:

1. What genotype is her virus? Hepatitis C comes in several different varieties called "genotypes." Genotype 1, genotype 2, genotype 3, 4 etc. The genotype is important because the length of time you treat with interferon (peg-intron) is different for each genotype. Some genotypes treat for 6 months, others treat for almost a year (and some people choose to treat much longer than that).

2. You don't mention that she took ribavirin pills too, you only state she took peg-intron. Hopefully she took ribavirin pills along with the peg-intron, because taking both interferon and ribavirin together greatly improves her chances of being cured.

3. Did your mom have a liver biopsy? A liver biopsy is a procedure where they stick a needle in your abdomen and remove a tiny sample of liver tissue. The liver tissue sample is examined under a microscope by an expert who can tell how much damage the liver might have. Many people with HCV have very minimal liver damage, some have moderate damage, and some have very extensive damage (even cirrhosis). This information is useful because if your mom has minimal damage she may not need to treat right now and can possibly wait for newer, better drugs to come along. And on the flipside, if she has extensive liver damage, then that indicates she should treat aggressively as soon as possible and try her best to be cured.

4. What were your mom's dosages? How much does she weigh and how much peg-intron was she taking? If she was taking ribavirin too, how much of that was she taking? Did she take the ribavirin with food, especially food with fat in it? Taking the ribavirin with fat rich food greatly increases its absorption and effectiveness.

Anyway those are a few basics for starters. But the bottomline is that even if your mom failed her first round of treatment, that doesn't mean she can't be cured. Many people fail their first round of treatment, but are successfully cured on their second or third or even more attempts (as many people on this forum have experienced). Treatment is hard, but it can be done if she wants to be cured and her health criteria (as specified above) dictates treating again soon. Good luck to you and your mom in the meantime.

Very sad to hear that your mom has again got HCV.

You have told that your mom has used Peg-Intron. It means already she have used Pegelated Interferone (Usually there are two pegelated interferones available in the market, 1-Pegasys and 2- Peg-Intron). Just confirm that she had used Peg-Intron (pegelated) or Intron (simple interferone) previously. I think your mom should consult with good specilaist as he/she will first assess the condition of your mom whether she is in condition to support Treatment or not.

seems to be from Pakistan or india ???
