Glen, the trial Susan400 mentions would definitely be a good possibility. However, with the soon to be approval of the Merck drugs, I would rather see you do that than a trial if your insurance will pay or if Merck will be generous with their patient assistance. My reason is that you may not get the arm that would be best for you. I definitely think ribavirin should be part of your treatment, as well as your doc able to give you the drugs for the the longest duration. Just my opinion, Glen.
I don't think this has Sofosbuvir in it, but the trial accepts Sofosbuvir or Harvoni failure patients. It has the possibility of up to 4 drugs, or 3. It's open label and with or w/o Riba. It's a dosage investigating type of study. It's a phase 2. The drugs Elbasvir/Grazoprevir are in it in all arms, along with the possibility of a new drug and/or Riba. No placebo. Each arm will get some of the treatments drugs.
I've heard that this is a good trial. I was asked to screen for it and I was seriously considering it. But, since I haven't yet tried Harvoni, my doctor is advising me to wait until my insurance will finally getting around to approving the Harvoni for me. I told the MA, who gave me this information, that he can relay back to my doctor that it will be a LONG wait. I won't get Harvoni from overseas, not even on my radar screen/plan whatsoever. My insurance is changing as my husband's job/company is changing by the first of the year. Most insurances (including my current one), don't want to cover Harvoni for Sovaldi relapsers, when they don't have much damage and aren't anywhere near cirrhotic (which I don't have but barely a stage 2, so that doesn't apply to me). My doctor says since I've done SO MANY treatments and obviously have a very stubborn/resistant strain that he thinks I should just wait and monitor and that eventually, the Harvoni will be picked up by the insurances. I prayed about it and I finally decided to just go with his advice and be more patient and wise about it. With that said, this is a good trial for you, you have more damage than me and I can see why you need to do something soon. I've spent the last 20 years of my life doing various treatments and combinations thereof. Double dosing, trials, etc., etc. Sort of wrung out by the whole thing quite honestly. I was so sure when I cleared that summer on the Sovaldi+SOC that I was finally going to be able to move on. It hit me pretty hard disappointment wise and finally, was all gung-ho about doing this trial. But, now I feel peace that I am going to listen to my doctor. I would really like to know if you get in this and I'm hoping and praying that it is the cure for you. Susan400

These are the drugs that are due to be approved in the next month or two. They are Merck's drugs and are pan-genotypic for genotype 1,2,3,4 and 6. As soon as we learn more about the patient assistance programs I will let you know.
