thanks for your replys was just curious cause have seen it up come up on threads thanks
Also a month after treatment I got my PCR test done. It came back with a number of 43 I believe. The doctor said this was not possible that if I had relapsed the number would be much, much higher. He made me waita month and retest. AT that time (and ever after) my viral load came back at zero.
Sometimes for some reason we aren't sure about this can happen but it is very rare.
If you have just been tested and had a positive reaction most likely it was to the antibodies. Which means you might have the disease or might not. As Jakie said you need to have a PCR test to count the number of virons basically and this will tell you if you carry the virus or just the antibodies.
If you carry the virus the number would be much larger than a 43 of course. More than likely this number won't be a false positive, true false positives are pretty unusual and usually they occur right after treatment is over for whatever reason.
Hope that helps a bit.
I meant to say , 'A number 1 and 3.8 is a
strong pos.
False pos. On the screening test, you have a 'signal to cutoff' ratio. A number 1 but 3.8 is a strong pos.
If you have a weak pos score on the screening test, you need a confirmatory test,
called the 'Riba' test. This is VERY specific for the Hcv antibody. On this test,
you will have either neg, indeterminate or pos. A neg Riba has no reaction to the
4 bands, indeterminate is reactive to one and pos riba is reactive to two or more.
A neg Riba means the pos screening test was a 'false pos.'
