Hi Aaron—
Try not to let viral load be a concern at this point. Viral load doesn’t necessarily correlate with disease severity; I had significant fibrosis per liver biopsy (stage 3-4), and never had a viral load in excess of 150,000 IU/mL. Others in here have had very little damage, but viral loads exceeding 50,000,000.
I see in another post you mentioned having ‘genotype A’? Genotypes are preceded by a number; 1a, 1b, 2a, 2c, etc.
Have you tried calling a university medical center near you and asking if they have any programs that might be of help? Sometimes they offer assistance to those that are uninsured; you might call the university, ask for the medical center, then the GI department and see what they have to say.
The HCV meds can sometimes be obtained privately through the manufacturer’s patient assistance programs; that saves $25,000 year; but you’d still need a doctor to manage your therapy.
Good luck—
Bill
If you have a doctor you can try the Pegassist program through Genentech. I've just started treatment 3 weeks ago, and they cover my meds for free.. Good luck to you my friend and welcome to our forum!! :o)
thanks for the welcome i dont know the current condition of my liver other than my viral load being so high i was under the impression clinical trial would be my best option i really appreciate your reply thank you
HCV treatment is relatively expensive; it can cost in excess of USD $50,000/year. Participation in clinical trial might be an option; you’ll likely get access to cutting edge therapy for no cost.
How long ago do you think you were infected; do you know how much fibrosis, or scarring your liver has sustained? Do you know which genotype you are?
Welcome to the forum—
