it could mean a few different things. I will tell you worse thing first, it could mean you have Hep C. Second, it could be a false-positive but only a 5% chance of that. Third you could just have the anti-bodies and your system fought off the virus. Hope for 2nd or 3rd scenario. You will need one more test to find out for sure, a PCR (viral load) test. This test will show if you have any copies of the virus in your blood. Best of luck
What you are referring to is the screening test. you had a 'reactive' score, probably greater than 1. If your score is >1 and <4, there is a chance of a false +. Ask your doctor for the 'Riba' test. this is VERY specific for Hcv antibody. If that is neg, your initial screening test was a false +. If the riba is pos, you definitely have hcv antibody in your blood stream. you may be neg for virus. ask your doctor for a Pcr, qualitative, test to confirm presence or absence of Virus IF the riba is pos.
