it's me again, and it's the week-end

as many of you know i have had this horrible rash that started under my right knee, and itched so bad, and now my leg and ankle are swollen and my leg (only shin where rash is) is itching like crazy. my arms are still bumpy but not as bad, i thought my shin rash was getting better, but today started swelling and rash seems raised, bright purpulish red color, shiny, patchy,  i have been to dermatologist who did a biopsy and blood test, they called yesterday and said the biopsy was not skin cancer, and that i tested positive for spungditus????? i have never heard of this but go back for follow up on may 7th. has anyone here experienced something like this while on treatments? i just took shot 9 of 48 last night, all of this has come about after i started tx, i did get a tiny splotchy rash last summer and it came back this year after tx and has gone out of control help me if you can i don't want to spend $200.00 at emergency room.

i also had a tendency for a rash prior to inf/rib.  also got the ribo rash with meds.  dermatologist said to use nonprescrip cerave lotion & cleanser( 2 different types i found at rite aid) & to continue prescript med i used before called betamethasone cream.  both worked but didn't cure till off meds.  also used benadryl over counter for itching.  try non perfumed cleaners.  maybe this will help you.  it does get better--hang in!!

Someone also mentioned coconut oil and that eased my skin too.

I did have my rash for 3 months before it started to subside.  BTW, many doctors don't know a thing about the sx of hep c or treatment, know matter what their speciality is!

Don't know what tx you are on.  If you are on the peg/riba, you can call the number from http://www.pegasys.com/injecting/hep-c-support.aspx.

There is a nurse on call 24/7.

The other thing I forgot until cat mentioned it, is one of the possible sx is psoriasis & eczema.  Mine was just (just does not really describe it) the horrible Riba rash.

I still have this horrible rash, now for 3 months . It is on every part of my body except my face, thank God!  Itches and keeps me up all night sometimes. Have done it all to stop it. No Go. I have alot of Aloe Vera in the yard so I have tried it and it works pretty good for a little while. One good thing is that it is free. Have spent lots of money on this damn rash. I wonder if it will ever go away. I have scars from it already. *****!!! Other than that I am o.k On injection # 15. Only 9 to go. Am Geno 2. I only hope it leaves me when I am done with the meds.

Hi, sounds like the really angry eczema that i developed about the same time during tx that you did.  Purple xtremely itchy miserable.  Never heard of spongditis tho.  My doc put me an ointment triaminone or something like that.  Took two days but gave immediate relief from the itching.  He said he'd seen this in a number of pts in tx.  Just a thought. I had totally forgotten I used to get eczema when i was younger.  He also said cool damp cloths can help with the itching. Ive always had very sensitive skin.  Have had poison oak too when a kid.  Oh, my got so bad I had it behind both knees and elbows, up and down both legs and a large purple patch on the back of my right shoulder.  3 months out of tx and I'm still getting little bits of it when I sweat or am anxious.  Ask about the eczema ointment, I asked for the strongest for the body and lesser for the face, oh yeah the face...like a stiff mask around my mouth and both eyes.  Unreal.  Must be like childbirth and you forget (thankfully) all the **** you've gone through.  Good luck and take care.  June

thank you all for your help, i guess i will find out more on thursday, and will let you all know what's up, i feel like a leper, but swelling was down this morning when i woke up, guess standing and walking makes it worse, but it does not hurt. oh well----------thanks again.

yes makes me wonder what they are teaching their next in command.  no problem about grammar   joined the forum for friends that know what I'm going thru... If I wanted to do the grammar thingy  I would have been a school teacher...NOT HAPPENING      LOL    and now it's 4:10 am   so guess what???  think I might hit the hay for a few hrs... try that cool  soak in the tub..might help.

docter was sick ,saw a nurse practioner in the clinic I go to .made the appt w my primary ,almost walked out {bad moods } Im wondering how much she knew about HCV .!I told her I was infected ,are the drugs your giving me safe w tdx ?/  she gave me a blank look .I got more imfo from :being charge }on this one .but I guess If doesnt clear ,I will  see about culture ?    thanks   ps  sorry for bad grammer ,Its 330 am ,cant sleep ,but groggy   lol     bob

would your dr not have told you if it were poison ivy,,,hmmm  I'm thinking yes if he is any kind of dermo dr...tried researching spungditus and got absolutley no result...  wish you were feeling better. Just a suggestion you might try a cool bathe.. as cool as you can take it... should relieve some of the irritation.

Im wondering If this poisen Ivy Is just that .because you de scribed what I have 10 wks  into tx .but very limited {hand  & thigh} ,also Is clearing up .Im also on benydryl  &  1% hydrocortisone cream . Ill probably know It ,when I get  riba rash ? no?

I'm on Riba/Interferon tx.  I had the Riba Rash all over my body except for my face & hands.  Thick, raised, and deep red.  I believe I had it for about 3 months. I was in agony!  I'm in week 25 and it's gone now.  I still itch, upper back burned like alligator skin but getting better.  But, I keep my skin coated 24/7.  Using just "Curel" healing cream now.  Oh, I also take benedryl at night.
