Giddy and I saw his doc today and there is a new double blind study that they would like to see if he qualifies for...involves nitazoxanide with riba and iterferon..good results on geno 4/ in Egypt? whatever...its been almost 6 weeks off  maintenance so he may qualify...just wondering if anyone knew anything..or heard anything, this one was new to us. Hello to our old friends and hello to the new ones!!

Hi again, Giddy decided to do the trial, and the NP called to schedule a screening date. We have been playing a game of phone tag, don't know when he will start. He is really down in the dumps, wanting to regain his strength and start working again...and now the thought of starting another round of treatment, and knowing he really has little choice..He is cirrhotic (stage 4), beginning varices,  cryo, extreme fatigue, shows signs now of insulin resitance....trying to convince him that it may not be that bad, and he may get SVR!!!

Who - Kalio added the Alinia in and achieved SVR.....after relapsing the first time.

It sounds worth a shot to me, especially if he's already done the infergen already and it didn't work.....Good luck!

Hi, Yes that is the one!. They are taking four subjects from this office for the study.  Yes, Giddyup is a 1a. Our only hesitation this time (he did the infergen trial for Intermune) is starting the whole combo therapy again , been there done that twice already, and he was exhausted just on mainentance for a year and a half... we have about a week to decide. but they drew bloods yesterday to be sure he qualifies, and the nurse said this moring that his platelets were good...just needs another bx for protocol.. I will keep the board posted..thanks, Su

Yes! We are all very excited about Alinia (the brand name).  Is your hubby geno 1?  The best thing about it is that it is already approved by the fda for diarrhea, it was found safe to give, even to babies ( granted, people with hcv will be taking it for a lot longer than the people with diarrhea) so it will become available to the hcv community that much faster.  Some docs are already prescribing it off label for hcv.  I know there are a couple of people on this board that are taking it.  If your hubby gets into the trial, please keep us posted!
