Hepatitis C

Anyone out there what the normal range for SGT, SGOT, LDL and LFT are supposed to be? I most likely contracted the disease from one of two sources; the air guns the Govt used on us back in the 70's for giving shots or while working as a medical technician prior to there being an identifier of hepatitis C. I am trying to piece it all together from copies of my medical paperwork from 1976 but have no idea what "normal" levels are. I now have stage three hep-C and cirrhosis of the liver. Anyone have an extra liver?

Different labs may have different reference ranges.
These are from Quest Diagnostics

ALT/SGPT    9-60
AST/SGOT   10-35

I'm sorry that you have progressed to the point that it can't be treated with our wonderful SOC (yuck actually). There are people on here who have had transplants who could offer you some good advice. You should start another thread asking for advice about transplants, that way they will see it (put that in the "subject" spot).

I hope you can get the help you need.

Thank you for the support. I have copies of old labs which show significantly elevated SGT and SGOT levels way back in 1976. I received the innoculations in 1974 and was also exposed to blood borne ilness 1974-1977. This is the only way I could have caught the bugger as I have no tats, don't use IV drugs, no transfusions, etc. Neither my first wife or present wife have Hep-C. Have had many lab tests to include CT, MRI, labs etc which show cirrhosis and all of the specialists I have seen agree that it is too far advanced for the drug cocktail at this point in time. Success rate may be about 20% in cases like mine. I will be pressing the VA to get me on a donor list ASAP. I am just trying to get additional compensation to cover my wife when I get called up.

People can live with compensated (liver still functions properly) cirrhosis for a long time. It's different for everyone of course.

If you have stage three you do not yet have cirrhosis of the liver, but you have advanced fibrosis. Even if you were at stage 4, if you successfully treat your liver can regenerate quite a bit or completely. Knowing your genotype is very important for treatment. Some Genotypes are relatively easy to treat. Welcome, this is a great place to get help and advice from some great people.

Mike gave you the ranges. I read about how a lot of people in the military got infected with the air guns. That is such a shame. When you got it will really be a hard thing to pin point, the important thing is that now you know you have it. Do you know your genotype? Did you find out you were stage three from a biopsy? There is treatment for this dragon that is flowing through our blood, and getting rid of it is the priority now... and living a very liver friendly life from now on.

Learn, Learn, Learn all you can about this disease, and ask as many questions as you need to be able to make wise decisions. There are some VERY informed people on here that want to help you.
