I can tell you what the Incivek and interferon would cost me if I didn't have insurance. The Incivek is 9000 dollars a month for 3 months. The Pegasys is 2900 dollars a month for 48 weeks (in my case). I only know this because Cigna reads me a disclosure, if I don't want to sign for the meds. The Ribaviron must not be so much because the don't require a signature for that...Mark

I'm going to assume you are asking about the cost of the treatments for Hepatitis C. There are an incredible number of variables, so it's hard to answer even that. The treatment will probably be more than just the interferon injections. Your treating physician will have to take into account the genotype of your virus to decide which drug combination will be most effective for you. I think almost all patients are given daily ribavirin pills in addition to the weekly subcutaneous injection of interferon, and for the more resistant genotypes they will usually add one of two different protease inhibitor drugs as well. All these drugs are pretty expensive if you have to pay full price, but most people either have insurance that covers all but a co-pay, or find some kind of assistance with the costs. The pharmacuetical companies themselves offer some assistance programs for the uninsured. Personally, I have a co-pay of $90 every 90 days for the interferon and another one for the protease inhibitor. The ribavirin is available generic, so my co-pay on that was only $10 every 90 days. If you have insurance you should ask them, and otherwise I'd recommend googling interferon and then following a link to a manufacturer and looking at their assistance programs. If the treatment is still out of reach you can also look into getting into a drug trial. These usually provide free treatment, but the trade off is that you are a guinea pig for them.
