protein: is soup meat?

I know because of my cirrhosis I’m not supposed to eat much meat.
Is it alright to eat soups made from bones? I’m looking for ways to increase my calcium.
        Thanks.    OH

Has your dr given you a limit in numbers of your allowable protein grams? Here's a website to figure out what normal protein requirements are. Maybe you  can just stay below the minimum?? http://www.indoorclimbing.com/Protein_Requirement.html
Miss talking to you on the forum. I was reading old letters and can't believe how intense our emotions were.
Is this your picture/painting by your icon?
Hows the family? My dad is doing great! All my kids are moved out and I'm trying to pay off debt so that I can someday retire.....wow that makes me sound old:)

I think the best way to keep calcium up is to eliminate all soda preduces/coffee and tes. they all strip us of minerals.
for clcium drinks juice carrots, highly absorable.you won;t absorb much from most supplements as they are in an inorganic form. better to find high food sources where the mineral rock or bone has already become a soluable form through photosynthesisi.

kudos on keeping protein low..this should help keep amonia in check and therefore senciency.
there is a miracle platet inctreaser...known as plasma,,,(jk) thats how many of us got HCV to begin with....still at this stage, it's a better solution than none, and it is safe....er...than it used to be.

Hi Evangeline,
Thanks for your input and kind words. I wasn’t diagnosed with HepC until I already had cirrhosis with ascites. So, I had to begin limiting salt intake right away. I’ve taken lactulose for encephalopathy too. It works. Sometime during TX, I stopped taking it-didn’t need it anymore.

We are so lucky to have HR to help us with the assortment of supplements out there.

It sounds like you have your hands full with your hubby.

Yes, I think I’ve been fortunate to live a full diverse life. I think what touches me the most is unexpected kindness.

Let me know if you find a miracle platelet increaser.
I’m getting lab work this week including  another PCR.
I’ll be out of town for a week or so and possibly away from the net.
Thanks again,    OH

The Dr. never restricted meat for Joe.  They just said, "just eat a healthy diet."  The Gastro. office we originally went to (NP)  didn't seem to know anything about mild encephalapathy.  She only seemed to know about full blown cases.  I had noticed so much forgetfullness in Joe which wasn't characteristic of him.  I got on the internet and brought in a study article for her to read...she seemed mildly annoyed but did order the lactulose.  Joe has had no more trouble with the abnormal forgetful stuff.
l let him have a little meat and dairy, but never the centerpiece of the meal.. I also try to keep him away from processed meats and stick to salmon, chicken or ground white turkey.  I'm very miserly with the meat and use it more like a condiment if at all.  He does usually have two eggs each day because this is a food he has really craved.  I usually use soy or rice milk but give him a tiny sprinkle of cheese sometimes because he loves cheese and use to eat a lot of it.  I have some control here because he doesn't cook for himself.  He wants to feel better but he doesn't want to think about it much so he just cooperates with my program.:>)
After the second failed TX we weren't given much hope.  I needed to feel like we were doing something so I looked for what we could have some control over.  HR's supplements have been a Godsend.
I need to stop saying vegan because it is closer to vegetarian.  I'd go all the way to vegan for a while but I would get a lot of cranky whining from the troops.
Have you looked at sesame seeds for extra calcium?  I could be wrong but it seems like I remember them being a source.  I can't imagine soup bones being a problem.  I think salmon bones are also a good calcium source-a little yucky feeling, but easy to chew up.

We changed to a research hospital (5 hours away!) and they did suggested a  low sodium diet which I've done my best to accomodate.  I am hopeing Joe can get one more shot with SOC and Alinia.  His progress always stopped when they had to lower the Riba dose and I'm praying that Alinia will take up the slack. His platelets are low though so I don't know if this will happen.
I was very sad when when you relapsed.   You sound like you live a very interesting life and I wish you all the best.
