The best thing to do for the rage is be aware of it. If you can, take a long walk, or do other exercise.
I'm an artist and was able to channel some of my rage into drawing.
Remind yourself that it will not last.
Then try hard to control your mouth, that is don't let it out on your loved ones.

This is a very old thread. You would get more answers if you post a separate message.

Ribavirin takes many weeks to leave the body. It has a multiple dose half-life of 12 days, and it may persist in non-plasma compartments for as long as 6 months. However, you should start to feel better in a few weeks as the concentration of the drug lessens in your body. Wishing you the best.

I, too have experienced this riba rage and I've been off the stuff for6 wks. Having a very short temper and getting frustrated so easily. I tried to draw one day and got a block, just couldn't envision the picture on paper. I became so instantly angry i stabbed the tablet with my pencil several times and flung the tablet against the wall. THAT'S NOT ME. What routes does ribavirin take to exit the body? Sweat? GI waste, urine? what? I cann't imagine going thru months jof  this.
if anyone has a min. to help. please and thank you.

Doc gave me xanax to control rage, stress and anxiety that was brought on by treatment, to be honest they had me taking more drugs to deal with the side effects of treatment meds than treatment meds themselves, I treated with incivek though, much different side effect profile. I made it through, achieved SVR and no longer take any pills unless absolutely needed.

Have a great day

With no personal experience I did a Google searching
Riba rage term was used with INF/RBV and mainly attributed to the INF.

http://hepatitis.about.com/od/questions/f/ribarage.htm
Riba rage is the popular, though misleading, name for certain side effects from treating chronic hepatitis.

Ribavirin Riba Rage with Hepatitis C Treatment

Excerpt
It is always easier to look back at a situation. Ribavirin Riba rage with Hepatitis C Treatment is a good example. I can sit here calmly and write about it like it was just a phase I was going through. It was SO much more. I can tell stories that would curl your frizzy-falling-out hair, but this post will mostly be about how to deal with it. What you need while going through it is some tools to help you manage your life. You are on this medication to get rid of the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and prolong your life. It is a matter of getting to the other side of treatment and having family, friends, and possibly co-workers who will still speak to you.

My personal non-medical opinion.  I have my doubts about ribavirin by itself being a major factor in causing "Riba Rage"  Exception (maybe) unless specific blood test changes caused by ribavirin resulted in a medical condition where "Riba Rage" is one of the side effects.

Personal Opinion
"Riba Rage" with sofosbuvir and ribavirin treatment is most likely cause by the exacerbation of an existing mental heath condition.  Also could be a temporary mental condition caused by anxiety over treatment or other worsening coexisting condition.

Of course the primary objective to to address the symptoms of "Riba Rage" and complete treatment and achieve SVR.

Consider self therapy suggestions here. You need to talk to and consider medications your doctor may prescribe. Especially the drug side effects including sudden medication withdrawal warnings if any.

on sovaldi/riba...also take Xifanan clonindine. vitamin D, furoserride, prevaid, aldactone, zinc sulfate, levothyroxine.

While I have been on all except for sovaldi.riba for awhile, have noticed this week a slight irritability....but it is with me...just tired of taking pills.

I agree with orphanedhawk....the best thing to do is get busy.  sleep when you need to.  Try to walk more.

there is a 800 24/7 nurse hotline that can answer that question for you more completely....It should be in your paperwork or given to you by your doctor.  Plus you should have been set up for blood work ups...call your doctor.

It is what it is my friend....it's how we deal with it.  Even though I am one of the most positive people you will meet I have had to shake off irritability over the years.  I know I am lucky.  Look at the poor people in Chile, Syria, etc.  I always tell anyone here in town if they feel poor me...they need to go just sit in the lobby of local children's hospital.  I am fortunate.

The only side effect I've had so far is excessive energy.  Could almost be described as maniac energy.  Then the next two days I sleep.  So go figure.  I am awake when I'm awake...I sleep when I sleep.  If others have a problem with that, it is their problem not mine.  I have a mission for the next few months and that is to stay calm, take care of myself and think positive.  And for me, if this doesn't work, maybe the next one will.

I am on transplant list and even if I kick this HCV with this drug therapy and I have been on many... I will still have to have a transplant....I have to look about me daily and smile....I am already beating the odds....have for over 20 years....am.hanging in there for a reason...and not going to waste my time on being angry....it's no one's fault....it just is what it is...I've learned to deal with it with a positive outlook and a sense of humor.

Had to laugh at what nuhepper said....most posters know I have a small therapy dog.  1 night...and only 1....I was extremely nauseous and fatigued...I couldn't have gotten up to be sick if I tried.  Even time I felt a wave of nausea, Jack would jump off the end of the bed and run for his papers and throw up. Should I have been mad at him for getting ill, ...no he made it to the papers I keep by the door for him...but twice he didn't...so. no...he didn't get a verbal assault...he got a hug.... he was just feeling what I was feeling....and even though I was fine the next day...he was as weak as a dish towel having taken the full assault of whatever was going on inside of me.  Support, humor, focus can come in various ways.  Start writing your story.  I am keeping a detailed journal of what is going on with me.

Take a deep breath.....find a creative release for your energy.....positive thinking is the best therapy you can ever do no matter what happens to you ,... upteen years ago they put me on proszac for irritability and anxiety and people swore they could see my head spin on my shoulders...so I got off of it and have employed positive thinking ever since.  / footnote..told in 96 to get my affairs in order...maybe had 30 days....hey...I'm still here....decided to

No, Aquisi, I did not mean Klonopin. Yes, Clonidine is prescribed to treat high blood pressure (which I don't have), but it is also prescribed to treat ADHD, insomnia, anxiety, hot flashes, and help quitting smoking, among other things. My doctor prescribed it for my insomnia.

Thanks for the laugh, nuhepper!

I recommend humor.  For instance, "My wife and I are so close that she got all of my side effects.  There for a time she couldn't do, think or say anything right".

We have been there Buddy, but is was my method to take the fewest amount of drugs as possible.  The idea is to get better not to get in deeper by taking every medication that they will give you.  Sometimes we just have to burn through these things.

Gabapentin helps for sleep and they metabolize in the kidney instead of the liver.   But you may be tempted to take more and more of them.

We all wish you well.  Let us know how you are doing from time to time.

You must mean Klonopin as Clonidine is a high blood pressure med.

I'm on week 9 of sovaldi/ribavirin for GT. My co-workers are about ready to shoot me. My doc prescribed Clonidine for insomnia and anxiety but it hasn't helped the rage. Thank you, orphanedhawk, for the tips!

Are you taking interferon also? This is what exacerbates what you call "RIBA rage".

Thanks for letting me know about the Riba rage. I had noticed my husband was a little more angry as of late. Who the heck could blame him! But I never connected it to the Riba.  Thanks for sharing. It helps to know.
