Started treatment today

Took my first shot of Pegasys a few hours ago. I'll be doing 24 weeks of Pegasys + Ribavirin. The P.A. told me to take the injection today, and then begin taking the pills saturday, for some reason, but it sounds ok to me. And so it begins.

Hi MaryAnne, congrats on getting started and hope all is well on the first day of trt.  I anticipated the fevel, chills, nausea, etc. after the first shot and it didn't happen for me.  Wish you the same.  Let us know how you're doing.

Oh  MaryAnne ..I forgot to mention ..it is usually best to start a new thread by going to the top  where the  orange "post a question "is . that way more people will see it and respond.

Best..

Hi MaryAnne..congratulations on getting started. It would seem everybody reacts somewhat  differently to the meds. Many people doing the combo treatment of INF. /Riba find they only have mild side effects and some get more severe events. It is hard to predict.
You are on the right track taking the Riba with food  (possibly a little fat in it) as it can help with absorption and possibly stave off any nausea you may  feel.
Drink lots of water also during therapy as it also can help with alleviating some side effects.
Good luck with your shot today..some folks report having some flu like symptoms to differing degrees  and others with not much at all with the first shot..

Feel free to ask any questions you may have as you go along and welcome to the group...

Today 1/05/2012 is my first day of treatment. I took a Riba this am at 8:30 and have an appt with PA for my first shot at 11:am. I have been freaking out the last couple of weeks in anticipation for this day. I am geno 3.
I am praying for the best outcome. can anyone give me some input.  I know to drink lots of water and eat something whrn you take the riba which is hard for me to do in the am, but I did manage to get alittle food down and take it. I don't know what to expect today, being the first day and going to get my shot in 1 hour.

Last time I was at the Dr.s he said "put a smile on your face" you dont know how lucky you are having genotype2 I thought he was being a little rough but I guess like he said if you gotta have one this is the one to have. Guess we should count our blessing which I try to do on a daily basis. Best of luck to all and get visions of Pack Man that game used to make me nuts when my son was little and now I'm killin all the critters!!! Well I hope I am!!!! :)

Thanks for the welcome and I am proud to be a card-carrying member of the Friday Night Dart Club.

Mykids247 and OrphanedHawk - I see that Gen 2b is more common than I had thought. My PA said, "Oh you'll hardly even know you're on medication". Haha Easy for her to say.

I too am genotype 2, did my first shot last night. It went much easier than I'd anticipated. Drink lots of water, keep some by the bed.
I did the shot, some stretches, a little positive meditation then sketched in my doodly way, until I was sleepy. At some time in the early morning, I awoke feeling like a ton of bricks were on me, just literally heavy.
Although I've been a bit achy today, it hasn't been bad. I walked 2 miles.
Life is good!
Welcome.

Hey Louie I am also genotype 2 started riba on tues. FIRST SHOT TONIGHT!!! I must say I am a tad nervous to say the least. Not so much doing the shot but putting the darn thing together. Caps, and twist and dont touch and UGH!!! I am sure after tonight it will be easy just like the first time with anything. I was going to go to the Dr.'s office today to do the first one but didnt want to do it until bedtime, they said that way if there is a side effect you will probably sleep though it. Good luck with treating and welcome to as some on here call it "The Friday night dart club"   :)
