safe amount of cortisone

the riba rash is driving me wild. how much cortisone is safe to use on the rash. i know that steroids can cause the hcv virus to become active and i am at 16 weeks on tx and virus undetectable. i would not want to jeopardize that but i feel the rash getting worse each day. thx for feedback, babs

Hope you will get it under control! I remember only to well how horrible that was, even though I only had a few patches.

I remember it like it was yesterday, 'cause I just broke out in hives last night. Must have been the shrimp I had. Got it all over my neck, arms, belly, chest and it's started going on my head and face. YUK!! It's driving me mad and just woke me up at 3:30 am. Can't go back to sleep and will go to the doc in a few hours to get some antihistamine.

Here is to trying not to scratch...

Good luck with treatment!!!

Yes the sx change all the time. Everytime I got used to one symptom, it would go away and another would take its place. I had a pre-existing problem with fragranced lotion so I used Lubriderm or Cetaphil and it really helped. Perhaps after you get rid of the rash these will help avert future skin difficulties?

I can’t imagine topical steroids being an issue if that’s what you’re referring to, Babs. Taken systemically is another concern altogether, I’d definitely talk to the doctor first.

I agree with Paen, maybe you can get some Atarax (hydroxyzine) and see if that helps; I believe that’s an antihistamine, I can’t imagine it adversely affecting your HCV therapy. It might make you a bit sleepy though, so be wary taking it if you have a lot of stuff to accomplish:

Sorry to hear it’s a problem; I never encountered that when it was my turn with this stuff, but I hear it’s miserable.

Take care, and good luck-

Bill

my Hep has no probem with me using cortizone cream.
some of those rashes can become pretty presistant.
I had one on my index finger for 4 months always acting up
than it just went away by itself.

Not to freak you out - I didn't grow a beak - I meant a break!! Geez!

Have you tried Atarax (Vistaril) ? It's really a God-send for intense itching. I only had to use it periodically - a couple doses and it seemed to break the "signal" and give me a beak for a while. I don't know much about cortisone, but this med was a life saver for me.
