Thanks so much for your feedback on my questions yesterday. I truly appreciate any additional input other than my own. I will probably have to get thru this myself with this forum. will give it a shot though, no pun intended....
I haven't had so severe a problem as yours, at least not since I finished with the Incivek, but I have had very frequent and abrupt problems with painful abdominal cramps and diarrhea pretty much throughout tx. It really limits my activities, as I don't feel safe getting too far from a bathroom. My hepatologist blames it primarily on the ribavirin and thought I'd just have to try to power through it. Almost as an afterthought he suggested that I might want to try eliminating dairy from my diet. I very skeptically did so, and it did seem to reduce the severity of the problem, although it didn't totally resolve it. I think your problem could easily have multiple factors involved: the interferon and the stress of tx both causing the Crohn's to flare up, the ribavirin doing it's own little number on your intestinal tract, and then there could be dietary factors too. I hope your hepatologist is one who likes solving puzzles and will put some effort into it for you. Good luck!
Thank you. Will get back on this. Will wait until I have my blood numbers this week before I call hep c doc. Slept 12 hours so am ready for something today. YEAH :)
Not again? Shoot, this is horrible. I remember my husband saying many times in the final months of tx that he felt as though the meds had built up to a toxic level in his body. I guess that's what you're going for to eradicate the virus, but it must feel awful. Please report back and let us know what your doctor says, you can't be the first to experience this particular dreadful side effect.
Just something to consider or talk to your doc about. I came down with Cdiff after treatment because my body was weak. If your diarhhea last more than 3 days ask them to test you.
Yes, I had read that as well.....Hopefully I can survive the next 60 days of meds...Special thanks
Thanks OH..Yes...tons extra water and Gatorade. My hep c doc knows of my full medical history and I did read the literature. Just wanted to throw this out for feedback within this forums experience which is excellent.
One more thing, make sure you're drinking even more water, diarrhea is dehydrating.
Before beginning tx, my team gave me a handout which I had to sign, that had a long list of: Potential Side Effects of Interferon and Ribavirin Therapy.
Each catagory had three groups of likely, less likely and rare but serious.
Among the likely group of Gastrointestinal Disorders
are listed Vomiting, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, and more.
However, just because it's caused by tx doesn't mean you have to put up with it.Call your doc who's treating you and tell them about it. There might be something that can help.

I'm sure others that are more experienced than me may chime in if I'm not correct, but isn't crohns disease and autoimmune disorder? I think that interferon can trigger autoimmune stuff. May be worth looking into. Anyway, hope you feel better soon.
Thank you so much for your input. Truly appreciated. When I was 12 yrs. old, a million years ago, I was near death with what was discovered in an exploratory surgery that I had Crohns Disease. It was during that surgery that I got the hep C from my many transfusions. When I woke from the operation I was good to go. I have never had one symptom of Crohns in 49 years. Interesting for sure....
Well, I am not sure that it is the riba OH. Just tossing this out there to see if this happens to others. When it does happen the pain in the stomach is near unbearable. It is so so odd that all is well....then....bam...a normal stool has turned to 100% high volume diarrhea for 3 to 5 hours finding addition liquid from I don't know where in my body and my perfectly normal stomach suddenly needs to completely empty and when empty will not stop trying to empty more for at least 2 to 3 hours. Quite odd. But, so is this entire process....
Hi I am sorry you are feeling so bad after your shot. I am only on wk11 and don't have a response about the toxins. However I have ulcerative colitis and can identify with that response. Feel better soon.
How can you tell it's the riba ? Interferon can cause digestive upsets.
Although I never had your reaction, I did have my riba reduced from 800 to 600 and felt better, my cough disappeared and I could walk uphill again without getting winded.
