With regard to my comment that 'inflammation comes and goes',the transamines (ALT and AST) give a fair idea of the level of inflammatory activity.
Mine were significantly raised at one point.I am also a relapser. They have been persistently normal for the last eighteen months. It varies from one patient to another. They can of course be persisently raised.Regular liver function tests will reveal the state of affairs.
The inflammation is caused by your immune system trying to do something about the invading hepatitis virus in your liver. It is what causes the scarring. grade 3 inflammation indicates pretty wide spread inflammation but you are fortunate on have only stage 1 of scarring (fibrosis).. I am not sure I agree that inflammation comes and goes. My inflammation is grade 1-2 and has been the same both before treating and a year after relaping. The following is from Janis (http://janis7hepc.com/home8.htm ) an excellent place to find out information.
“Stage” is the amount of fibrosis (scaring) detectable by biopsy…from stage one (mild) to four (cirrhosis). “Grade” is the amount of inflammation, which is caused by the activity of the virus. Generally speaking, inflammation is the precursor to fibrosis.
The biopsy is graded by two scoring systems. Both the degree of scarring (known as the "stage" of liver disease) and the degree of inflammation (known as the "grade" of disease) are noted. There are four stages. Stage 1 refers to a minimal amount of scarring, limited to an area of the liver known as the portal triad (where the arteries, veins and bile ducts are found). Further progression of scarring outside of the portal triad and into surrounding liver cells is considered stages 2 and 3. When scarring results in long bridges of fibrous tissue that separate nodules of normal liver tissue, it is called stage 4, or cirrhosis. "

THis website has slides of various stages of liver disease. You can look at slide 1 to see what a healthy liver looks like - then look and slides 12 and 23 to see lobular and portal inflammation. You can pick apart your biopsy report and look at slides that show what the biopsy report is saying. I find it fastinating (but I am a little weird).
frijole
I think you mean stage 1 fibrosis. That is earliest stage of liver damage and not much to worry about.
The inflammation comes and goes-at the time of the biopsy your liver was quite inflamed.
Scarring is normal used in reference to cirrhosis a much more advanced condition.
Check with the doctor's office to confirm that it is fibrosis, which the numbering sytem used suggests that is.
