statins-cholesterol-liver

Anybody here is/was taken statins (Lipitor for ex) to lower cholesterol?
I have cleared the virus after one year of treatment and now I discovered that I have border line high cholesterol (220).
My primary care dr said I should not take this drug (Lipitor) for possible negative side effects affecting the liver.
I did a cardiologist who has quite an opposite view (take it!)
And my liver dr (the one who treated me for HepC) kind of did not take any part . His view is take it if you need it.
I am afraid that the side effects might hurt my liver , already hurt by C virus...

Any advice?

Thank you

Mircea

If you are going on a statin - which are safe for people with Hep C, by the way - you might consider asking for fluvastatin, which has been shown to inhibit HCV replication in vitro, and has the same efficacy and heart protection as lipitor or crestor.

Congrats on svr and Good luck!

Yes-take the medication.
As I always say, virtually all prescribed medication is contra-indicated for liver disease and your primary is going by the book.
If these were rigid rules then none of us Hep C patients could take anything.
The liver is very tough and now that you have cleared the virus you are in a good position.
As your liver doctor does not have concerns then nor should you.
