If your doctor is correct, congratulations! Many primary care physicians are not very knowledgeable about hep c -- maybe that was the case with your 1st doc -- hopefully your results were reviewed and explained to you by a GI, hepatologist, or a doctor who has experience with HCV.
Most people who are exposed to the virus become "chronic" -- their bodies do not fight off the virus, and it remains active and detectable in blood. However, about 1/3 of the people have immune systems that manage to eliminate the virus, and the only way they know they have had hep c is that their blood test shows positive for antibodies, but not the active virus. Sounds like you were in the 2nd group; if so, it's wonderful news!
It's always good to get copies of important lab results such as this; that way, if you have any doubt, you can always have a 2nd opinion review them for you. Best wishes! ~eureka
Congratulations!
It looks like you had acute hep c and cleared it by yourself. This happens to 15 - 35% of people who get infected.
But the labs do show you have antibodies for Hep C-Right? This is/was my
nagging question...and I do not want to scare you. I went for a routine exam and
had blood drawn and tested positive for antibodies for Hep C. This was about 96 0r 97.
I was told not to worry because I didn't have Hep C; only showed exposure to it. In 2004 I had blood work and then was told I had Hep-C and they would keep an eye on it.
4 years and a few months ago biopsy, Fibrospecht and then Tx. WHY?
good, for you, some do clear by themselves
