I use acetaminophen (Tylenol, Paracetamol are brand names for the same drug) - really an underrated rug and so help with the sx. Sometimes I feel bad and realise after a few hours that I could take some acetaminophen and am amazed at the difference it makes. I take a maximum of 2000 mg a day and no longer take Ibuprofen at all. Somedays I need it more than others - this week has been hard and I have been taking the full dose each day. I would still check with doctor first. I run everything by doctor/treatment provider before I take it as do not want to interfere with treatment adversely or cause any other problems.
Tylenol is the preferred pain killer by hepatologists for those on treatment. That said, I stopped taking it after week 3 and didn't notice a difference. Felt like sh*t either way.
my hepa told me Tylenol is ok for during tx but used in compliance with drug information, unless you're allergic (like me). heard Advil decreases platelets so not the best option for painkiller.
Maybe you're right I don't even have any sx so I guess I can afford to not take it.
I skipped the tylenol with my shot one week and it turned out to be a really bad idea. I felt awful during the night and the whole next day. Now I don't skip them. They are obviously doing something . . .
I take Tylenol only as needed too. I have what is considered advanced liver damage and doctor said 2000 mg daily is fine. He recommends Tylenol over all other pain relievers.
I agree with Portann. I was told to take Tylenol prior to my shot so I did that for the first 8 weeks or so and then I decided to try it without taking Tylenol. No difference at all. Maybe consider trying a shot without the Tylenol to see how you do without it. You can always take it if you start to feel like you need it after the shot.
You may want to take a chance and skip the two Tylenol before your injection. For weeks, I always took two before my injection because my nurse told me so. One day I risked not taking them and it made absolutely no difference.
I was told I could take up to 2000 mg daily of Tylenol and now I only take them as needed, which isn't often.
I take two only if I need them. But I always take two before a shot.
My Docs have told me 2000 mgs of Tylenol is fine. That's the equivalent of 4 extra strength (500 mgs) tablets per day. Depending on you particular condition, it's probably ok.
I think you should ask your hepatologist about this. Some people are allowed to take it. I was not allowed to take tylenol due to my liver enzymes being high, nor ibuprofen, because they were worried about my kidneys. In fact, my doctors have asked that I still stay away from both drugs. Others here have been told by their physicians that its ok.
I would think it best to ask your doctor if its ok, and if so, what the max dosage per day should be.
Best to ask your doctor but I have been told by my Doctors that yes it is ok.
