Can you post a link to that Article?
I work in a one person office in a small town. I started telling people about my hep C when the rumor exploded that I was having cancer treatment. I still can't explain my feelings of that day. It was a difficult situation. Since, my world has not ended. People I never would have expected stop by just to chat and help me feel normal. Others seem to have disappeared. All in all it's OK. I would have preferred my privacy but it was not to be. You should be fine in the restaurant business. With all the health regulations in place you are not a threat. You may have to be even braver and educate about the disease and how many people have had it for years and don't even know it. Stories about family members that do not have the disease even though they've lived with us for decades are helpful. Articles like the one in the NYTimes today hurt. Hold your head up, this is a medical condition not a moral judgment.

You are not obligated to disclose and it's really not anyone's business. You can't be fired either. Many people infected with hepatitis c work in the medical profession and they can't be discriminated against. There are no restrictions on health care workers unless they have been shown to transmit the virus to patients so the restaurant industry is not a problem.

And no, they can't fire you, not unless you bleed all over the customers and then cut them so your blood can get inside of them.
I'm odd, I know it, but I told the people at work because it caused a pretty big personality change in me and I didn't want anybody to think my new marriage was the problem. Plus I'm a strong believer in "knowledge is power" so I decided to inform my friends on the FACTS about hep c. I believe the more people that know the FACTS, the less people will be afraid to get tested for it, and maybe someday this disease won't be looked at as a disease for "bad people".
Like I said... I know I'm odd, and most don't agree with this point of view... but I never did really care about being like everybody else anyhow.
Diane
only on need to know basis
75 out of 100 infected do not even know they have it
you are not at liberty to disclose and nor are you putting anyone at risk, i would avoid saying anything unles you need to
Did you say anything to work about it? You don't have to say anything, unless you question it, then you probably shouldn't be doing it.
