Donating to the Liver Foundation is a excellent Idea for sure!
Great post Deb, yep many times we have done it..
And for the Canadian members

nygirl and jules:
Excellent post Deb. They do great work and much more full time dedicated than one of those "so called" celebrities.

I have to agree with you Deb on donating money to the Liver Foundation. I have never done that in the past but I will definitely do it now!
Note to new people.......we all have tried in the past; written, emailed, petitioned, called and sent smoke signals. If you dont see the older people 'trying' it is because we have been there and done that. It's not that we dont care. Were just jaded by past experience. If we could afford to book one of these stars for an event - honestly I'd rather donate the money to the Liver Foundation as we have done in the past. HCV and livers dont care where the money comes from for research just that they get the money.
Just MHO.
Hi everyone -
We sincerely do not want to disable this post, but if it doesn't stay on topic, we will have to. If you have thoughts or concerns about the social side, send me a PM.

I've been around here a long time. I recall many discussions about hep C awareness and what if anything we could do to improve it.
In fact I recall ladybug back in 2007, wanting us all to collect our fallen out hair, make a giant ball with it and roll it to Washington DC.
Hep C awareness is an important issue.
Personally I don't care what side of the forum it's on. What's important is getting some information out there so idiots don't keep making hep C the butt of jokes, or thinking we've got the cooties.
PS I really dont think AI wants him out there talking about his drug issues and HCV. He just bought a 1.1 million dollar car. I think he could just pony up the money instead of doing an event, how do we know he does not?
I remember writing Steven Tyler to ask that he use his celebrity status to raise awareness when Russell Brand had a HCV trashing misinformation fest in his Saturday Night Live monologue"
Where did you write him? Do you know that he even got your letter because usually his assistants would read stuff like that even if you sent it to a real address and decide if it warranted going to him. Should have sent it fedex and seen who signed for it maybe. I've sent him correspondence and gotten replies that have nothing to do with HCV at all. Hum very odd.
BOOK NAOMI TO SPEAK
"I'm a communicator," says Naomi, "whether I'm expressing myself through writing a song or a book or I am speaking at an engagement. Finding a way to share our common experiences is my grand passion. "
Thanks for your interest. If you provide us with a few preliminary details below in the form, we'll get back to you with availablility and "fees" within 48 hours.
Incidentally, the correct spelling is "ribavirin" & "pegylated"?
Who would want to step up for Hep C when it's own members almost always summarily attack them? I think it is often a thankless cause, and so my message is to be supportive, these people are not doctors. I don't see that doctors universally get it right, for that matter.
I remember writing Steven Tyler to ask that he use his celebrity status to raise awareness when Russell Brand had a HCV trashing misinformation fest in his Saturday Night Live monologue. I never saw any celebrity of note step up, and so I am usually grateful when one does *something* positive. Naomi in my way of thinking has done more than most.
Greg Allman has been a good friend to the cause;

Hi everyone -
This thread was moved because it isn't about a medical issue related to Hep C. It's awareness. This side isn't just for non-hep C stuff, it's for anything hep C that isn't directly medical.
If it helps, think of the other side as medical, and this is all non-medical, like awareness, etc. It can also be for non-hep C stuff, too.
If anyone has a question, please direct it to me, and not in the thread. It is inappropriate in this thread.

I can't remember what I had for breakfast much less 2007! Oh wait, I had a latte, doobie, and 12 dozen donuts
Wow that amazes me that someone can remember something I said back in 2007. I can't remember what I had for dinner last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why dont we start a letter writing campaign and see how many celebrities will come aid our cause? Oh yeah how many times has that been done?
My only advice is to say before you go asking celebrities to preach our message - be SURE you know what message they are preaching. Anybody remember Natalie Cole and all the complete misinformation she pushed out into the public? Nothing personal but..........nonsense.
still question why the thread was moved?

I guess you will just have to figure this one out for yourself...

Greetings in the name of compassion, healing and hope,
When Hep C forced me to retire from my singing career in 1991, even though I was quite ill I wanted to see something positive come from such a crisis. The word crisis in Chinese is made up of 2 characters: danger and opportunity. When I contacted the American Liver Foundation I was dismayed to learn they had only $200,000 in their bank account.
I started a research and education fund with $75,000 of my money. Since then I've been able to raise over one millions but it’s been awarded to researchers. The primary goal is to finance research to find a cure for this deadly, mysterious, and highly mutant virus. Awarded one research grant for $100,000 to doctors in Colorado to study Pediatric Hepatitis C. I can't bear the thought of kids suffering from this condition. (Of course I've never received a penny for my work with the American Liver Foundation.)
=================================
According to wikipedia, Naomi Judd has raised over 1 million dollars for the Liver Foundation
Yes..... I know you don't agree w/ Naomi Judd. You called her a "whack job" in this thread;
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Hepatitis-C/naomi-judd/show/97954
But you judge what she wrote well over 10-14 years ago, back when treatment did not include ribaviren and before interferon was pegalated. The cure rate was about 10%.
I would ask; who has done more than Naomi Judd, and why when people step up to do *something* for hep c awareness they are always summarily attacked?
Until Debs post, the only person who mentioned Naomi Judd in the thread was me and the OP.
I still question why the thread was moved? It was clearly Hep C oriented; not some non-hep C related subject.
I also do not see that the moderator weighed in on the demand that posts have medical questions that willbb posed. What's up with that?
