... where I've been.
I was around here a fair bit during my dosing period and up to SVR12...
I was (am) in the ELECTRON Part I trial (in New Zealand NOT Australia!)
There were 40 patients, of which 1 in 4 got no IFN. So that makes 10 of us I guess. I was in the first cohort to begin dosing.
The doc agreed that it's possible that I'm the first person ever to medically (rather than autonomously) clear HCV without going through IFN.
As my cohort all got the SVR24 all-clear results, the doc indicated that the results from the trial were likely to be game changing for HCV treatment. Certainly, amongst the around 20 or so others we encountered at the facility, it seemed that everyone had gone UND within 2 weeks, more often within days of starting tx.
I need to re-disclose that after I got my SVR12 result, I went out and bought a small number of PharmAsset shares.
More than happy to answer any questions.
Yes, so far it is for people who have never treated. Gilead has an all oral trial for null responders and I though that Pharmasset had one in Australia.
I know someone who is driving 3 and a half hours each way to be in a trial with PSI 7977. She was UND after 2 weeks and, like me, only mild fatigue as a side effect. If you asked her if it was worth it; I am sure she would say yes. In our particular trial, there are often cheaper housing options for people to stay overnight. We also get a stipend for participating which would take care of overnight facilities I think. In my trial, we had to go in daily for blood draws for about 2 weeks. After that, it was once a week for two weeks, then every 2 weeks up to 3 months and then every month. But definitely keep checking the web for places close by.
Oh and tx naive? Does this mean someone whose never been through any kind of tx? Don't mean to sound dumb, just still learning alot of the lingo.
Susan, people who have psychological or psychiatric problems are often recommended not to take interferon. Of course, I assume that there are many who have psychological issues with taking interferon so they might qualify too. I don't know if it matters but I wouldn't/couldn't take it because of my job. I can't imagine they would be that exclusive as to reject someone because they couldn't come up with a good enough reason not to take ifn.
I am hoping to get into the pharmacett trials myself. Still waiting for something close to my area. I contacted a Sandra Kirvin( Clinic co-ordinator) she said right now the closest place is San Antonio, Tx. And to keep checking the Pharm website because they are adding new places every day and also contact liver Dr. I'm going to call my Dr tomorrow and hopefully there will be something getting ready to start close by soon. Got to stay on top of Dr.'s around here. Keep your fingers crossed friends. Sandi
