Over a week ago, Saturday May 12th morning, I awoke with some discomfort in my abdomen. I thought of it as cramps and I just needed to use the toilet. I tried, but I didn't/couldn't go. But I urinated just fine. About ten minutes pass, the pain got worse. "Has to be gas" I thought, "something I ate" but I couldn't even pass gas (though I could burp). Another ten minutes pass and the pain is still getting worse until about 30 minutes after waking, I had to call my mom to take me to the hospital, it hurt so much and started to extend into the groin (right side). Getting up and walking around helped relieve the pain some but eventually that didn't work any longer and sitting or laying down made it more noticeable.
So I spent about nine hours at the hospital (most of it waiting to be admitted and consulted). They immediately thought it was a appendicitis or a kidney stone, but having no pain in the back or any tenderness when moving or touching the area, I knew they were skeptical so they took some blood and hooked me up to an IV with Toradol (to reduce pain and any inflammation). About 20 minutes of that I felt a whole lot better. I then went for a ultrasound. After the ultrasound, while I was waiting to go back to the room I could pass gas again and that is when I started to feel so much better and once the Toradol drip had finished, I was fine. But they wanted a urine sample so I had to stay a little longer until I could urinate again (so I got another bag of fluids). Provided a urine sample and waited for the results and everything came back clean/negative. So they still felt it was a kidney stone and prescribed me an anti-inflammatory, a pain killer (Tylenol 3) and something to dilate the ureters to help the suspected stone pass. I felt fine that day and thought I'd wait on getting the prescriptions and see how I felt the next day. I could still feel something but nothing to say that it was uncomfortable, most likely from them pushing and feeling in the area and using the ultrasound device (which they really pushed with). They also arranged a CT scan and x-ray for me which I had done on this passed Tuesday (waiting on results).
So since that Saturday I have felt perfectly fine, doing what I normally do and absolutely no discomfort until today again when I awoke (the pain did not wake me). I felt some discomfort again, as if I was gassy and need to pass gas or use the toilet. This time though the pain level is no where near the last and it has been over two hours and it has only gotten slightly worse. But I've also been to the toilet more than once (first to urinate, which was normal, then I had to defecate, which was fairly normal, felt some relief and then again once more which was solid/loose stool, but all the while able to pass gas). So it's almost been three hours while I write this and the pain is tolerable but I feel bloated/gassy but just in that area, like a tightness just next to the hip bone if I were to point at it. I've taken two Tums to see if that relieves it any and am waiting to call for my results when the get back to the office.
Just wondering if anyone else has any theories. I'm sure there's a thousand and one possibilities but I suspecting a hernia of sorts?! I did eat quite a bit last night, more than I normally would I guess (I eat in small portions) - I had 2 hot dogs at dinner time and then a third one about an hour later and then a fourth about another hour or two later. I don't eat junky food all the time (lately I've been craving it though), I can't remember the last time I had hot dogs, but maybe I overindulged (they were just too delicious). And now as I finish this the pain in the abdomen has dulled (only slightly) and feels more like it is just above the hip bone going towards the flank. Groin pain is still the same, a achy feeling like I was just kicked.
Thank you for any info.
