Ingruinal Hernia Repair Complications

I've had a ingrunial surgery repair a few months ago and till to this day I have been expierincing sharp pains along with burning sensations which makes me twitch in the area that the mesh was placed that runs from the incision area to my groin area. I've been prescribed alot of pain pills had an ultra sound to check if there was any fluids, bile etc etc and nothing could be found. So Ive been prescribed lyrica for Nuero pain  along with hydrocodone and was told that there's nothing else that they can do for me. The lyrica helps a lil I do still expierence pain that makes me twitch. I do not like what the lyrica is doing to me pyshcologically. Its messing with my head and emotions. The pain the meds are interfering with my day to day life. I feel that all they did for me was is feed me pills and didn't take me serious regarding the pain I been complaining about. Now I'm here left with no answers this pain and taking these meds which is messing with me. I need help I don't know what to do anymore.....HELP!

I'm in a similar situation to you - had surgery 5 months ago and I'm still in unbearable pain.  I've been through a pharmacy of drugs to treat is and finally gave up about 3 weeks ago fearing that I would loose my job and family if I didn't make any changes.  After 5 months on various drugs it was a rough weekend of withdrawal but the pain isn't any worse as the pain meds had basically become useless.  In my case I have constant burning pain but get extreme stabbing pain that causes me to almost blackout several times a week.

Keep looking around for surgeons, I finally found one that is willing to go back in and take out the mesh and plug and even cut the nerves.  I have about 1 more month before he will operate as he won't operate until after 6 months from the first surgery.  Of course my first surgeon came highly recommended so your not sure who to trust....

Some people are unfortunately unable to handle the mesh. You may need to consult with a specialist that can take a look at the placement of the mesh to figure out whether or not you may be one of them. In some individuals the mesh can move or start to curl and over the long run it can produce symptoms that can be fairly serious because of the location on the nerves and vasculature in that area. It's better to try to figure out the whole thing earlier rather than later.

Understand I'm not suggesting that you're going to have problems in the long term, but it worries me to hear that you're already having problems. See if you can find the boards dealing with inguinal hernia repair and mesh 'problems.' You may be able to get more information from those sources on this issue. Don't give up.
