2nd breakout worry

Just got over my initial outbreak of herpes 2 a week ago after a whole month of pure hell and two prescriptions of acyclovir. One week later I'm feeling a little bit of tingling and itch. Is it possible it's starting all over after just a week of clearing up?? I'm currently taking Lysine, vitamin C and B, and limiting my Arginine intake.  Not on suppression therapy yet, however plan to start soon. No medical insurance :(

Interesting. Now that you say this, I had another strange health occurence that happened to me this time exactly one year ago. Not sure if it's a possible symptom of HSV2 or not. I broke out with this terrible rash on my chest, arms, back and abdomen. My Dr. placed me on steriods to get rid of it. I ended up taking two cycles of steriods in order to kick it. It itched terribly, the worst on my breasts, and I also had to use a steriod cream and take something to help me sleep at night. Tried to determine the cause whether it was stress, allergic reaction to something, pre-menopause, etc. Heat/perspiring seemed to trigger it or spread it. Removed everything from my diet, moved to all hypo-allergic soaps, detergents, makeup. Never did find out what caused it. It just went away after the 2 cycles of steriods. Lasted for about a month. It was a nightmare. I eventually added everything back to my diet and using all products that I would normally use, and never broke out with it again. Could this have been a herpes outbreak??

herpes blood testing usually is not routine. odds are you were never tested for it before - you'll need to check with your provider to find out.

I actually had 2 of the worst recurrences of my life 1 year after I was infected and then another humdinger 16 years into infection while on daily suppressive therapy.  I have no idea what triggered the 1st bad recurrence but the 2nd one was triggered by a lingering vaginal infection.  Sometimes that's the only way folks find out that they are infected are when something triggers a very obvious recurrence that makes them go and be seen.

really?? wow, that's shocking. I did notice a bump on his penis post sex, and after I realized I had something I remembered it. That's why I was certain that's where I contracted it. Especially since I've never had ANYTHING like this before. And no, I was never tested for Herpes before, that I know of anyway. 5 years ago I had a boil down there. Very painful and it had to be lanced. I was told it was most likely an in-grown hair follical that caused it. Would they typically check for herpes when they did that blood test or would I have had to ask for that specifically?  Or how anout when you go to the Gyno? Do they check for that during an annual? I think a lot of people think that when they go to the doctor and get blood work done, it would pick up something like that and they will tell you. but I'm sure you are going to tell me no, right?

if your hsv2 igg was + a week post encounter, you didn't contract it from the partner you thought you did . It wouldn't test + that quickly.  this was just your first obvious recurrence of a previous infection. It's actually far more common than folks think it is, in fact about 1/2 of all presumed newly acquired hsv2 infections are just obvious recurrences of prior infections. His being an idiot and possibly having it too was just a coincidence.

were you ever blood tested for herpes before?

This is great information, Grace. I seem to be finding more and more information reading more of this forum. I am amazed how much "mis" -information this out there and how susceptible we all are to believe what we read. Especially now with the internet selling us everything from pet rocks to lizard slippers.

I was really hoping the antiviral meds I am taking would work a miracle for me! LOL Thanks for letting me know I might experience a longer time of this ob since it's my first. ouch! At least now I know what to expect. I really can't stand not knowing.

azo doesn't do much. I'd try fem dophilis by jarrow instead. You can order it through amazon - just store it in your fridge once you get it. start out taking 1 twice a day until you stop having vaginitis and then go to monthly. it's a probiotic proven to colonize the urogenital tract in females and helps to reduce bv, yeast and uti's.  Terrific info on it on the jarrow website and it's efficacy is backed by real scientific studies, not just some site telling you use this it works.  I swear by it myself!  also were you seen many times to confirm that this is yeast and not just a change in your vaginal secretions due to changing hormones?

was your blood test done a week or two after the encounter with the man in question?

Will do today!
I've actually have had Chronic yeast infections over the last 2 years. Like religously every month right before my period. I've been on Azo yeast for the last 2 yeast without ceasing. However, slim chance this isn;t Herpes as my situation is like out of a Novel.
I met a VERY talented "up and coming" musician through mutual friends. Within 1 day after sex with him it was immediate pain that started. It was hell and I knew something was wrong by the end of that week. That's when I went to the clinic. When I told him about it he acted as if he was shocked and sad and worried and said it must have been his ex girlfriend who cheated on him gave it to him and he didn't even know. I believed him. After seeing him for a month post knowledge, I found out he was sleeping with 5 other women at the same time by looking at his phone while he was sleeping and seeing explicit text conversations with all of them! He had been acting different and I knew something was up but was in MAJOR denial about it. First thing I did is text all the women to let them know he gave me herpes and about the lie telling me about his ex and not knowing about it, and hadn't been with a women in 6 months. This guys is an evil disgusting pig! After I did that he sent me a photo of his next VICTIM and said "Valiant effort but here's what I'm #%$#ing tonight" PURE EVIL TRASH!
Then he tried to lie and say he got his results back and he was clean, so it was all me! ANOTHER LIE!
The BEST part of this, a slim piece of satisfaction is he was friends with my best friend's husband and HIS clients/friends who are in a band. They all have the same lawyer as he does. My friend's husband spoke to their lawyer and told him what this guy was doing, and the lawyer knew about it! Says it's happened before and he's had to warn him about it. Told him he's going to mess with the wrong women one of these days. Said he was going to talk to him and address his BAD behavior again. Hope it puts some sort of scare in him, but something tells me probably not.

that's all the info I needed - thanks!

A hsv2 igg of 4.4 is above the typical false positive cut off rate. Definitely call the health department though and ask what your lesion culture results are just to be sure.  also ask if they tested you for vaginal infections like bv there too.

yes, they did lesion culture at the health dept when I first suspected something was wrong, however I never got there findings as they said it would be weeks and i did not want to wait weeks. Plus the wait the first time to see them was like 3 hours and the place is depressing. I didn't wan to go back there. I can probably call and see what they came up with. I went out on my own though and got blood work done. The blood work showed the following:

HSV2 IgG  4.42 High

Do you need additional information. There are other numbers but it's just like a index table.

"Is it possible that a person who already had their initial genital herpes outbreak to NOT have another outbreak without taking any type of suppression drug? In other words, can you become A-symptomatic? "

I copied this from your other post.

how often you will have recurrences varies from person to person. is it possible that you won't have further ob's? you can be that lucky but typically that is with hsv1 , not hsv2 genitally.

also I will gladly take a look at your test results too if you want to post them here - e.g. hsv1 igg 7.9 and hsv2 igg 4.3 or whatever they are too to make sure you had proper testing done and don't need additional confirmatory testing done. did they do a lesion culture too or just blood work?

the research studies we have on herpes and lysine show that it had little effect. unfortunately many websites still tout it and never followed up with proper research :(   Lysine and herpes is one of the biggest herpes myths out there :(   easy enough to find the studies on pubmed that show that supplementing with it didn't speed healing of genital lesions as well as it didn't significantly prevent recurrences either. Hundreds of posts on this on the herpes expert forum, this forum, the std experts forum as well as in the herpes handbook and the book "the good news about the bad news".  Traditionally lysine is thought of being helpful for healing but really it has little effect on herpes.

The initial infection with herpes unfortunately doesn't always have significant response to herpes antivirals. It's not until the bodies natural immune response to herpes kicks in that you get fast and significant relief with their use. Now granted using them for the initial ob certainly helps reduce viral shedding and help you feel better sooner but unfortunately they don't always work as quick as we want them to when we are feeling miserable down yonder.  If you have vaginal infections, especially bv, further complicating it all, the ob lasts even longer and will return sooner. See if you can get an appointment at your local health department  or even planned parenthood if they have a clinic near you for a more affordable exam and care.

I had blood work and a full exam. Unfortunately I do have it. I am uninsured so I was trying to find some holistic ways for prevention. I'm very shocked with what you are saying about Lysine not being effective at all since everything I have found on the web says opposite. I've never come across something that says otherwise. I will eventually have to come up with the funds to go see my Dr. Being self pay costs around $120. The walk in clinic will only see you once since it's a chronic condition. I've already been there once when the itial prescription I got from the health dept was only 400mg of Acycl and didn't work. Had to get another prescription of 800 mg and took that 5 x a day. Thanks for your response.

the lysine /arginine theory for herpes was disproven a very long time ago. No reason to change your diet for herpes and supplementing with lysine has little effect on herpes.

how were you diagnosed as having genital herpes?

have you had any testing for any genital infections like yeast and bacterial infections vaginally?

you can have your provider call in a prescription to the walmart pharmacy if you are in the US.  You can treat ob's for as little as $4 there and daily suppressive therapy is under $20/month. many other pharmacies also offer the same prices so be sure to shop around for the cheapest prices.

It is possible ur having another outbreak. But, if ur taking the Lysine as prescribed then u shouldn't be havinv another one so soon. If it starts to get worse, check back with ur doctor to see what other treatment options u have.
