Blood test question

I recently had recurrent yeast infections and became concerned about herpes after a lot of reading online. I had a blood test done for type 1 and type 2 both negative. My boyfriend had a test done as well, both negative. My previous partner sexual partner was over 2 years ago. My question is if I had contracted herpes from my previous partner and never had an outbreak would the blood test have been positive? Or will you not have a positive blood test until you have an outbreak?

Your testing would indicate you are HSV negative. It's been more than 3 months since your last partner (I assume your testing was somewhat recent), and your current partner is negative. The main point of the blood test is to be able to diagnose herpes when there are no physical symptoms - it detects antibodies, meaning the person has herpes. No antibodies means no herpes. Good for you both being proactive and getting tested! Now you don't have to worry about it :-)
