CDC

Why does the CDC  and Focus (makers of Herpselect Test) say that 12 weeks is confirmatory for HSV and everyone here says 16 weeks? Just got off the phone with both.

Really it wasn't worth all this testing. the odds of infection from a one time encounter without any obvious symptoms are really low.  A negative result at 12 weeks makes it unlikely that you contracted hsv2 from the encounter.  Should you get a return of symptoms, go and be seen for a lesion culture and typing, not blood testing.

Interesting Grace, I had a one time unprotected exposure with HSV-2 female where I felt like I had oral symptoms and a couple wierd bumps....one on my thigh and one between my belly button and my pubic hair. I have had 3 tests at 2 weeks, 9 weeks and now at 12 weeks from Lab Corp (who I understand uses Herpselect test) all negative for 1 and 2. This has trully wrecked my recent life since I was not told of the infection till after the sex. Can I feel confident in this test without fear for future relationships or do I need to keep testing?

The herpeselect is the only test that is considered accurate at 12 weeks. Since we don't know what test you are using, we recommend the more accurate for all other tests 16 weeks - covers all the bases regardless of what test you are using - herpeselect, biokit, captia, WB etc.
