I suffer from occasional cold sores (so HSV 1, I think) but my partner does not have either HSV 1 or HSV 2.
Yesterday morning I had a small sore below my lip which at the time I thought was just a pimple. I performed oral sex on my partner (I am female, he is male) but my cold sore emerged properly a couple of hours later.
I am very worried that I have potentially given him genital herpes. Is there a way that he can reduce the risk of developing it? If he takes a Acyclovir tablet, could this help to reduce the risk of him developing genital herpes from my (early stage) cold sore?
The cold sore was in the early stage, and also he did wash his parts with shower gel afterwards, which would hopefully have washed anything off.
Thanks in advance for your help. I would be wrecked with guilt if he caught it, so want to do anything possible to help avoid this.
Also, if he took tablets now as a preventative method (if I can manage to get a doctors appointment today), would he likely have any side effects from this? He has a big interview in three days time and I'm worried I might have ruined his chances (in fact, all of this week at work for him is pretty crucial for him, so the timing is terrible). Would Aciclovir make him dizzy etc?
Are the realistic chances of his getting something from one oral sex encounter with an early, undeveloped cold sore, fairly slim and would it be better to wait this out and see if he develops anything in the next 2-20 days? Or should I book an emergency doctors appointment to get these medicines tomorrow (and if so, is that three day delay in potentially being infected and taking the meds, too late? - assuming these are not available over the counter in the UK.)
